20100277848Apparatus and method for controlling excitation frequency of magnetostrictive ultrasonic device - Apparatus and method for controlling the frequency of the current in the excitation coil of a handpiece of a dental magnetostrictive ultrasonic scaling unit, or a similar transducer. A microprocessor continually samples predetermined functions of the current through the excitation coil, and periodically adjusts the frequency, by performing a coarse-stepped frequency scan, followed by a fine-stepped frequency scan until the function samples are close to predetermined optimum values. The functions can include the peak of the current and the peak of a high-pass filtered version of the current. The frequency adjustment is performed each time the handpiece is energized by the practitioner, and at frequent intervals thereafter, assuring automatic optimal frequency at all times and under all conditions. Apparatus according to the invention does not require sensing coils or complex power- or impedance-sensing circuitry and covers a wide range of resonant frequencies for different handpiece- and insert types. A configuration with multiple handpieces is supported.11-04-2010

20110269930INCREASED MONOMER CONVERSION IN EMULSION POLYMERIZATION - A method for increasing the monomer conversion in a redox initiated emulsion polymerization has been discovered. The method comprises adding a composition comprising an effective amount of a substituted phenol to the polymerization medium. In this manner, high monomer conversion is obtained and the product has low gel contents and a low amount or no crosslinking.11-03-2011

20100107998Multi-part piston for an internal combustion engine - A multi-part piston for an internal combustion engine has an upper piston part and a lower piston part. The upper piston part and the lower piston part each have an inner and an outer support element, which elements delimit an outer circumferential cooling channel and an inner cooling chamber, whose cooling chamber bottom has an opening. The opening is closed off with a separate closure element, which has at least one cooling oil opening05-06-2010

20100241390COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR EVALUATING SAFETY CRITICAL SENSOR VARIABLES - A computer system for safety critical sensor variables includes first and second sensors which respectively output first and second sensor variables, a computer, and an independent comparator. The computer calculates an output variable from the first sensor variable by a first function. The computer calculates a comparison variable from the output variable by a second function. The comparison variable and the second sensor variable are applied to the input of the comparator. The second sensor variable is not an input variable of the computer and differs from the first sensor variable in terms of its qualitative value. By calculations of the computer and, if appropriate, of the comparator, an expected comparison variable for the second sensor variable is determined from the calculated output variable, and the correspondence of the two variables is checked by the comparator. Specific internal errors of the computer can thereby be discovered.09-23-2010

20120035750Control System for Safely Operating at Least One Functional Component - A system includes a functional control unit and a controller. The functional control unit is configured to enable and disable operation of a functional component. The controller is configured to receive a sensor signal, evaluate safety quality of the sensor signal, generate an evaluation parameter representing the safety quality of the sensor signal, and output the sensor signal with the evaluation parameter as a pair for receipt by the functional control unit. The functional control unit is configured to control operation of the functional component depending on the safety quality indicated by the evaluation parameter.02-09-2012
