20080216087AFFINITY DISPATCHING LOAD BALANCER WITH PRECISE CPU CONSUMPTION DATA - A system for distributing a plurality of tasks over a plurality of nodes in a network includes: a plurality of processors for executing tasks; a plurality of nodes comprising processors; a task dispatcher; and a load balancer. The task dispatcher receives as input the plurality of tasks; calculates a task processor consumption value for the tasks; calculates a node processor consumption value for the nodes; calculates a target node processor consumption value for the nodes; and then calculates a load index value as a difference between the calculated node processor consumption for a node i and the target node processor consumption value for the node i. The balancer distributes the tasks among the nodes to balance the processor workload among the nodes according to the calculated load index value of each node, such that the calculated load index value of each node is substantially zero.09-04-2008
20110106521Extended Input/Output Measurement Word Facility and Emulation of That Facility - An Extended Input/output (I/O) measurement word facility is provided. Provision is made for emulation of the Extended I/O measurement word facility. The facility provides for storing measurement data associated with a single I/O operation in an extended measurement word associated with an I/O response block. In a further aspect, the stored data may have a resolution of approximately one-half microsecond.05-05-2011

20090067372HOST-BASED QUALITY OF SERVICE FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS - Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate providing quality of service (QOS) functionality on a host device or tethered processor to conserve resources on a network device. In particular, the host device/tethered processor can classify QOS data and manage QOS flows, transmitting data by flow to the network device. The data from the QOS flows can be tagged to identify the flow and/or characteristics thereof allowing the wireless device to simply route the data to its respective flow. Thus, the network device is saved from such classification and flow management freeing resources to provide increased performance and decreased power consumption.03-12-2009

20090282251AUTHENTICATING A WIRELESS DEVICE IN A VISITED NETWORK - Alternative authentication approaches for service request are provided. For a mobile station roaming in a visited network that does not support conventional updating of cryptographic keys (such as Dynamic Mobile IP Key Update) for a desired service, such cryptographic key authentication may be accomplished in a different way. Instead of merely rejecting a service request when a cryptographic key for the mobile station is not found at the home network, the home network may initiate a process by which a text messaging channel is utilized to establish such cryptographic key with the requesting mobile station. Alternatively, the home network may utilize other information, such as a verifiable identifier or credential for the requesting mobile station (e.g., IMSI, MIN, etc.) along with a roaming status of the requesting mobile station to authenticate the mobile station and grant access to network services allowing a requested service to be established.11-12-2009
20090323686METHODS AND APPARATUSES TO REDUCE CONTEXT SWITCHING DURING DATA TRANSMISSION AND RECEPTION IN A MULTI-PROCESSOR DEVICE - A method and apparatus are provided for efficiently transferring data between a first and second processors having shared memory. A plurality of data packets are aggregated into a packet bundle at the first processor. The packet bundle is then transferred from the first processor to the second processor using the shared memory, wherein the transfer of the packet bundle is performed in a single context switch at the first processor. The packet bundle is then unbundled into individual data packets at the second processor, wherein a processing load of the second processor is reduced due to the aggregation of the data packets into the packet bundle by the first processor.12-31-2009
20100014459METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING DATA SERVICES IN A MULTI-PROCESSOR COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT - Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate enhanced data service functionality for data services operating in a multi-processor computing environment. As described herein, respective processors and/or other components can be utilized to form a Smart Peripheral Subsystem (SPS). As further described herein, the SPS can operate in association with a modem processor and an application processor at a mobile computing device in order to reduce loading at the application processor and improve memory usage efficiency. In the case of a mobile computing device sharing a network connection with a tethered computing device, the SPS can couple a modem interface associated with the mobile computing device and an interface through which the disparate computing device is tethered to the mobile computing device such that operations such as Layer 2 (L2) framing and/or de-framing, Network Address Translation (NAT), or the like can be offloaded to the SPS under various circumstances.01-21-2010
