20080224414THERMALLY-ACTIVATED CONTROL GAP BRUSH SEAL - A brush seal for use with a housing and sealing a high pressure area from a low pressure area is provided. In an embodiment, the brush seal includes a retainer and a plurality of bristles. The retainer is comprised of a thermally-sensitive material having a thermal expansion rate. The bristles are connected to and extend from the retainer. In an embodiment, the retainer is not fixedly connected to the housing, and the thermal expansion rate of the retainer is greater than the thermal expansion rate of a portion of the housing adjacent the retainer. In another embodiment, a joint associated with a plurality of bristles is permitted to move into a headspace provided above the joint. A method for making a control-gap brush seal assembly for use in connection with a shaft is also disclosed.09-18-2008
20100164177HYBRID MULTISTAGE BRUSH SEAL - A multi-stage brush seal and assembly for sealing a circumferential gap with respect to a sealed component is disclosed. The brush seal includes a first stage including a first plurality of bristles and a second stage including a second plurality of bristles. In an embodiment, the first stage is configured with an initial first-stage clearance and seals said sealed component at high pressure and low pressure conditions, and the second stage is configured to have an initial second-stage clearance greater than the initial first-stage clearance so that the second stage does not seal said sealed component at the low pressure condition but is configured to be activated by a blow-down effect to seal said sealed component at the high pressure condition. In embodiments the brush seal includes features to enhance or reduce pressure blow-down with respect to the first-stage clearance.07-01-2010

20100181760SNAP-FIT FITTING FOR CORRUGATED STAINLESS STEEL TUBING - A fitting incorporating a snap-fit sealing and locking device and methods of actuating the fitting and forming a seal between a length of corrugated tubing and the fitting are provided. The tubing can be corrugated stainless steel tubing having a jacket that at least partially covers the tubing. The sealing and locking device incorporates a bushing that is advanced through the application of axial pressure into a sleeve portion. Fingers on the bushing engage one or more corrugation grooves on the tubing and apply force to the tubing to collapse one or more corrugations to form a metal-to-metal seal. Distal motion of the bushing is inhibited after forming a metal-to-metal seal by contact between the bushing and the sleeve portion.07-22-2010
20100201124FITTING WITH BUSHING FOR CORRUGATED STAINLESS STEEL TUBING - A fitting incorporating a bushing for forming a seal between a length of corrugated tubing and the fitting, and methods of actuating the fitting and forming a seal using the fitting and tubing are provided. The tubing can be corrugated stainless steel tubing having a jacket that at least partially covers the tubing. The fitting includes a bushing having a substantially open configuration, the bushing configured to engage at least one corrugation groove. When a nut is advanced, the bushing applies pressure to the tubing to crush at least one initial corrugation to form a metal-to-metal seal that is gas and liquid tight.08-12-2010
20110041944ENERGY DISSIPATIVE TUBES AND METHODS OF FABRICATING AND INSTALLING THE SAME - Energy dissipative tubes are provided, along with methods of fabricating and installing the energy dissipating tubes. An energy dissipative tube can include a length of tubing, a first resin layer surrounding the outside of the tubing, an expanded metal foil adjacent to the outside of the first resin layer, and a second resin layer surrounding the expanded metal foil and the first resin layer. Another energy dissipative tube can include a length of tubing, a conductive layer adjacent to the outside of the tubing, and an insulative layer adjacent to the conductive layer. A further energy dissipative tube can include a length of tubing, a metal layer adjacent to the outside of the tubing, and a resin layer adjacent to the metal layer.02-24-2011
20110042139SEALING DEVICES AND METHODS OF INSTALLING ENERGY DISSIPATIVE TUBING - Sealing devices are provided along with methods of installing energy dissipating tubing. An aspect of the invention provides a sealing device for connecting an energy dissipative tube having a length of tubing, a first resin layer surrounding the outside of the tubing, a conductive layer adjacent to the outside of the first resin layer, and a second resin layer surrounding the conductive layer and the first resin layer. The sealing device includes one or more penetrating members configured to penetrate the second resin layer and establish electrical continuity with the conductive layer.02-24-2011

20100007140CRIMP FITTING FOR CORRUGATED STAINLESS STEEL TUBING - A fitting incorporating a crimp sealing device and a method of forming a seal between a length of corrugated tubing and the fitting are provided. A sealing crimp is formed over at least one corrugation of the tubing, where the sealing crimp can utilize a preformed bend or bulge to form a crimp and seal. Alternatively, the sealing crimp can apply pressure radially against an outer sleeve of the fitting, such that at least one corrugation of the tubing is compressed axially or radially to form a primary seal. The outer sleeve also can include one or more gaskets arranged between the outer sleeve and the tubing for forming a secondary seal. An inner sleeve can be received radially inside the outer sleeve, and one or more gaskets can be arranged between the inner sleeve and the tubing. Further, a jacket crimp can be applied against an end of the sleeve member to contact a jacket that at least partially covers the tubing.01-14-2010
