Optically active muscone is generated by separating 3-methyl-cyclopentadecenones into respective components thereof by means of precision distillation and subsequently subjecting the separated 3-methyl-cyclopentadecenones to asymmetric hydrogenation by using an optically active ruthenium complex catalyst.
