20080283752Electromagnetic Wave Sensor with Terahertz Bandwidth - The field of the invention is that of the detection of high frequency electromagnetic waves. The invention can be applied to a very wide range of bandwidths, but the preferred field of application is the terahertz frequency domain. The core of the detection device involves a so-called active material with an absorption coefficient in the optical domain that depends on the intensity of the terahertz signal to be detected. By measuring the variations of the absorption coefficient by means of an optical probe, the intensity of the terahertz signal is thus determined. By this means, a frequency translation is performed in a frequency domain where the measurement no longer poses technical problems. It is notably possible to improve the sensitivity of the detector by having antennas suited to the active medium, by using semiconductor or quantum well materials. In this case, it is also possible to produce a matrix or an array of terahertz sensors, thereby enabling either terahertz imaging or terahertz spectroscopy to be carried out.11-20-2008

20100039650Physical Value Sensor Comprising An Optical Fiber That Is Not Sensitive To Static Values - The subject of the present invention is a dynamic sensor of physical quantities with optical waveguide with optically-pumped amplifier medium, which requires no interferometer or reference sensor and which makes it possible to obtain at least the same level of performance, in terms of sensitivity, as known sensors of this type, and this waveguide is linked at one end to a selective mirror, and comprises at its other end an interrogation laser, the reflection of which on the selective mirror produces a wave which, by interference with the incident wave, provokes the periodic saturation of the gain of the waveguide.02-18-2010
20110019179Self-Referenced Optical Fiber Sensor and Related Sensor Network - The general field of the invention is that of fiber-optic sensors comprising at least one measurement optical fiber having an optically pumped doped amplifying medium, the optical characteristics of which are sensitive to a physical quantity, the fiber having at least one Bragg grating. The fiber is designed so as to generate, in the amplifying medium, two optical waves having different optical frequencies that propagate in the same direction after reflection on the Bragg grating and are emitted by the amplifying medium, the two optical frequencies depending on the physical quantity. The two waves may be generated using either a birefringent polarization-maintaining fiber or a DBR (Distributed Bragg Reflector) laser cavity. Notably, this sensor may be used as a hydrophone.01-27-2011
20110122417Self-Referenced Optical Fiber Sensor with Stimulated Brillouin Scattering - A sensor is used to measure a physical quantity and includes at least: a measurement optical fiber including at least one Bragg grating; optical means designed to inject, into the fiber, a first, “pump” wave at a first optical frequency and a second, “probe” wave at a second optical frequency, the second optical frequency being different from the first optical frequency, the Bragg grating being designed to reflect the first and second optical waves, and the optical power of the first wave being sufficient to give, after interaction with the second wave reflected by stimulated Brillouin scattering, a “Stokes” wave, the frequency of which is representative of the physical quantity to be measured; and means for analyzing the difference in frequency between the two, “pump” and “Stokes”, optical waves. The sensor may notably be used as a hydrophone.05-26-2011

20080266253SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TRACKING A LASER SPOT ON A PROJECTED COMPUTER SCREEN IMAGE - A system and method for tracking a laser spot on a projected computer screen image computes a projective transformation matrix using the projected computer screen image electronically captured in a frame of image data. The projective transformation matrix is computed by fitting a polygon to a contour of each graphical object in the frame of image data and determining whether the polygon for each graphical object satisfies a set of predefined parameters to find a candidate polygon that corresponds to an outline of the projected computer screen image in the frame of image data.10-30-2008

20080252602DYNAMICALLY RECONFIGURABLE PIXEL ARRAY FOR OPTICAL NAVIGATION - Embodiments of an apparatus are described. In one embodiment, the apparatus is an optical navigation circuit. In particular, the optical navigation circuit may be part of an optical navigation device. The optical navigation circuit includes an image sensor, dynamic reconfiguration logic, and a digital signal processor. The image sensor includes a pixel array to generate a plurality of electrical signals corresponding to incident light at the pixel array. The dynamic reconfiguration logic is coupled to the image sensor. The dynamic reconfiguration logic is configured to receive the plurality of electrical signals from the pixel array and to generate a plurality of reconfigured electrical signals based on the plurality of electrical signals from the pixel array. The digital signal processor is coupled to the dynamic reconfiguration logic. The digital signal processor is configured to receive the plurality of reconfigured electrical signals from the dynamic reconfiguration logic.10-16-2008

20100214224LIGHT BEAM SHAPING ELEMENT FOR AN OPTICAL NAVIGATION INPUT DEVICE - An optical navigation input device with a light guide which acts as a beam shaping element. The optical navigation input device includes a light source and the light guide. The light source emits a light beam having a substantially elliptical or substantially circular cross section. The light guide is positioned relative to the light source to receive the light beam from the light source in a first direction. The light guide also redirects the light beam in a second direction toward an illumination surface at a non-zero angle of incidence. The light guide directs the light beam through a refraction interface in order to illuminate a substantially circular area on the illumination surface.08-26-2010

20100033893PRINTED WIRING BOARD FEED-THROUGH CAPACITOR - A feed-through capacitor is constructed in a printed wiring board using alternating layers of metal capacitive layers and plastic dielectric layers of the printed wiring board. The large number of layers, the avoidance of ceramic layers and the flexible geometry of this device allow it to be used in many applications, particularly in those involving high power high current. Also, because it utilizes a printed wiring board, the capacitor can be made in numerous sizes and shapes.02-11-2010
