20110078891SURGICAL CARTRIDGE WALL EXPANDER - A pocket-sizing method for a device that inserts staple drivers into pockets aligned to form a slot in a surgical staple cartridge. A fin extends from a driver guide fixture for insertion into the slot. The fin increases the size of the slot, thereby aiding in inserting drivers into the pockets. Preferably a second fin extends from the driver guide fixture adjacent the fixture passage and aligned with the first fin. A gap is formed between the first and second fins, extending from a first edge to an opposite edge of the fixture passage. The driver is driven through the gap. The fins are substantially equal to the thickness of the driver. The fins have tapered leading edges to aid cartridge insertion and removal, and a lip extends from the driver guide fixture for preventing the fins from widening the slot too much and for narrowing an overly wide slot.04-07-2011

20090277288METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TESTING FOR THE PRESENCE OF EXCESS DRIVERS IN A SURGICAL CARTRIDGE - A testing method and apparatus for determining whether surgical cartridges have excess drivers. A blade is disposed in the slots of the cartridge and displaced while it contacts the floor of the slot. If an excess driver is encountered, the blade is displaced away from the floor and this movement is detected, preferably by an electronic sensor. The apparatus includes a base plate to which a carriage is mounted, either directly or through other structural members. The carriage is configured to slide along a pair of parallel shafts, and is driven by a pneumatic ram or other linear prime mover. A tooling plate is moveably mounted to the carriage, and the blade is mounted to the tooling plate. Movement by the blade due to excess drivers results in movement by the tooling plate relative to the carriage, which is detected and recorded, such as by a computer.11-12-2009
20090277752APPARATUS FOR RAISING AND LOWERING - A method and apparatus for moving objects, such as pallets, between an upper horizontal conveyor and a lower horizontal conveyor. A lift raises the pallet from a lower conveyor, and a clamp disposed above the lift with inwardly and outwardly pivotable arms, having inwardly facing fingers at the ends of the arms, clamps the pallet and raises it up to be substantially coincident with the upper conveyor's pallet-supporting surface. A pusher displaces the pallet from the fingers to the upper conveyor. The apparatus can also be operated in reverse to lower pallets from an upper conveyor to a lower conveyor if a fastener, such as electromagnets, is mounted to the end of the pusher.11-12-2009
20090279997METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING WORKPIECES FROM THE BOTTOM OF A STACK OF WORKPIECES - A method and apparatus for removing the lowest workpiece from a stack of a plurality of substantially similar workpieces. A horizontal shuttle has a lip on its edge, and is driven in one direction to remove the lip from a void beneath the stack, thereby permitting the stack to fall. The lowest workpiece drops into the void, and the next higher workpiece rests on the upper surface of the shuttle lip. The shuttle is subsequently reversed to drive the workpiece into a slot in a vertical clamp body. The clamp body is driven downwardly, thereby driving the workpiece downwardly, to be acted upon by a secondary device, such as a conventional degating apparatus.11-12-2009

20110053125Polygonal Device for Kinesthetic Learners - A polygonal device for teaching students who prefer kinesthetic learning methods is presented in which the polygonal device can represent two-dimensional polygons of varying shapes and sizes. One or more of the sides, or legs, of the polygonal device are extendable, and the angles of the polygonal device may be manipulated to a desired angle. The devices presented include, but are not limited to, triangles, quadrilaterals, parallelograms, rectangles, squares, trapezoids, and kites. In each of these devices, the legs of the device are non-detachable, i.e. the device does not come apart during normal manipulation and operation.03-03-2011

20090116977Compressor With Muffler - A compressor assembly may include a shell, a discharge fitting, a muffler, a compression mechanism, and a motor. The shell may have an opening therethrough with the discharge fitting generally extending therefrom. The muffler may be in communication with the discharge fitting and may be external to the shell. The muffler may have an inlet proximate the discharge fitting, an outlet distal from the discharge fitting, and a body portion extending therebetween. The muffler may include a valve assembly proximate the outlet. The compression mechanism may be contained within the shell and include a suction inlet and a discharge passageway. The discharge passageway may be connected to the opening in the shell for direct discharge of refrigerant from the compression mechanism to the discharge fitting. The motor may be contained within the shell and drivingly coupled to the compression mechanism.05-07-2009
20100254841COMPRESSOR HAVING CAPACITY MODULATION ASSEMBLY - A compressor may include a shell assembly defining suction and discharge pressure regions, first and second scroll members disposed within the shell assembly, and a capacity modulation assembly. The first scroll member may include a first end plate defining a discharge passage, a biasing passage, a modulation port, a first spiral wrap extending from a first side of the first end plate, and an annular hub extending from a second side of the first end plate. The second scroll member may include a second spiral wrap meshingly engaged with the first spiral wrap forming a suction pocket in communication with the suction pressure region, intermediate compression pockets, and a discharge pocket in communication with the discharge passage. A first intermediate compression pocket may be in communication with the biasing passage and a second intermediate compression pocket may be in communication with the modulation port.10-07-2010
20110139794FLASH TANK DESIGN AND CONTROL FOR HEAT PUMPS - A flash tank is provided and may include a shell having an inner volume. A first port may be in fluid communication with the inner volume and may be positioned relative to a surface of the inner volume such that fluid flows therebetween in a direction that is substantially tangent to the surface.06-16-2011
