20080200970Patient temperature regulation method and apparatus - A device and method for providing body cooling. The cooling device applies cooling to blood flowing in a vena cavae that is then distributed throughout the body. The cooling can be assisted by use of thermoregulatory drugs or warming devices to prevent shivering and vasoconstriction.08-21-2008
20080221651Medical procedure - The use of an intravascular cooling element to induce hypothermia in connection with a medical procedure. According to a first aspect of the present, invention, a coronary bypass procedure is conducted in which a patient's blood is oxygenated with the patient's lungs and in which blood is circulated using the patient's heart or using an intracorporeal pump. The procedure preferably comprises: (a) positioning a heat transfer element in a blood vessel of a patient; (b) cooling the body of the patient to less than 35° C., more preferably 32±2° C., using the heat transfer element; and (c) forming a fluid communicating graft between an arterial blood supply and the coronary artery. The body of the patient is preferably heated to about 37° C. using the heat transfer element subsequent to the step of forming the fluid communicating graft. According to a further aspect of the invention, a hypothermic medical procedure is provided while a patient is in a conscious or semiconscious state, comprising (a) administering a beta-blocking drug to the patient; (b) delivering a heat transfer element to a blood vessel of the patient; and (c) cooling a region of the patient or the body of the patient to less than 35° C. using the heat transfer element.09-11-2008
20080262411DYNAMIC NERVE STIMULATION IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER EATING DISORDER TREATMENT MODALITIES - A method for the treatment of obesity or other disorders by electrical activation or inhibition of nerves is disclosed. This activation or inhibition can be accomplished by stimulating a nerve using an electrode. The method further comprises performing a surgical procedure and/or administering a weight loss drug.10-23-2008
20090118777EFFERENT AND AFFERENT SPLANCHNIC NERVE STIMULATION - Methods and devices providing for bilateral stimulation of left and right splanchnic nerves. Some embodiments of the method increase satiety, reduce appetite, affect gastric motility, and/or reduce food intake, resulting in weight loss. Some methods provided take advantage of anatomy, physiology, and natural body time periods to change stimulation locations and patterns to prevent the body from ignoring the administered stimulation signals in order to continue to induce weight loss over long time periods.05-07-2009
20100241189Nerve Stimulation For Treatment of Obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, and Type 2 Diabetes - A tissue modulation device, for treating at least one of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 diabetes in a patient, is described. In some embodiments, the device includes a storage module having computer-readable instructions for delivering an electrical stimulation pattern to a splanchnic nerve of the patient. The stimulation pattern includes at least one on-time. The on-time includes at least one of a suprathreshold period and a subthreshold period. The splanchnic nerve is selected from the group consisting of the greater splanchnic nerve, the lesser splanchnic nerve, and the least splanchnic nerve. The pattern is effective to ameliorate at least one attendant condition of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 diabetes in the patient. The attendant condition includes dyslipidemia, hypertension, hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, and/or insulin resistance.09-23-2010

Also described herein are dermal filler cross-linked compositions and methods for making such compositions. Such compositions comprise, for example, a cross-linked composition of hyaluronic acid, derivatives of hyaluronic acid or mixtures thereof, alginic acid, derivatives of hyaluronic acid or mixtures thereof and calcium ions.06-03-2010
20100137267FORMULATIONS FOR TREATMENT OF ADIPOSE TISSUE, CUTANEOUS TISSUE AND DISORDERS, AND MUSCULAR TISSUE - Compositions, formulations, methods, and systems for treating regional fat deposits and fat-related conditions, dermal conditions, and muscular conditions. Methods comprise administering a composition comprising at least one compound that reduces desensitization of beta adrenergic receptors, for example a glucocorticosteroid, and/or at least one long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, for example, formoterol. Compositions to be administered include sustained release formulations comprising at least one long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, at least one compound that reduces desensitization of beta adrenergic receptors, or both in a sustained crystalline microparticle form.06-03-2010
20110105446Sustained Release Enhanced Lipolytic Formulation for Regional Adipose Tissue Treatment - Compositions, formulations, methods, and systems for treating regional fat deposits comprise contacting a targeted fat deposit with a composition comprising long acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and a compound that reduces desensitization of the target tissue to the long acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, for example, glucocorticosteroids and/or ketotifen. Embodiments of the composition are administered, for example, by injection, and/or transdermally.05-05-2011
20110130373METHODS FOR ADMINISTRATION AND FORMULATIONS FOR THE TREATMENT OF REGIONAL ADIPOSE TISSUE - Provided herein are pharmaceutical formulations, methods, and systems for treating regional fat deposits and fat-related conditions and indications. Methods comprise administering a pharmaceutical formulation consisting essentially of a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, for example, salmeterol, suitable for subcutaneous administration. Methods further comprise administering a pharmaceutical formulation that is suitable for subcutaneous injection comprising: (a) a lipophilic long-acting selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and/or glucocorticosteroid, or a salt, optical isomer, racemate, solvate, or polymorph thereof; and (b) at least one subcutaneously acceptable inactive ingredient.06-02-2011

20100119609METHODS, COMPOSITIONS, AND FORMULATIONS FOR THE TREATMENT OF THYROID EYE DISEASE - Compositions, formulations, methods, and systems for treating thyroid eye disease and related conditions (e.g., Grave's Ophthalmopathy). The methods described herein include administering, to a patient in need, systemic or local beta adrenergic agonists (e.g., as an extended release crystalline microparticle suspension). The methods can further include administering a compound for reducing beta adrenergic receptor desensitization (e.g., a corticosteroid) prior to administering or coadministered with the beta adrenergic agonist. The methods can also include locally administering to the eye an immunosuppressant agent (e.g., rapamycin) prior to administering a beta adrenergic agonist. The compositions described herein include ophthalmic pharmaceutical formulations of beta adrenergic agonists in the form of extended release crystalline microparticle suspensions or mixtures of the crystalline microparticle suspensions with beta adrenergic agonist solutions. The compositions also include ophthalmic formulations of a compound for reducing beta adrenergic receptor desensitization in the form of extended release crystalline microparticle suspensions.05-13-2010
