20090319449PROVIDING CONTEXT FOR WEB ARTICLES - An overwhelming number of articles are available everyday via the internet. Unfortunately, it is impossible to peruse more than a handful, and it is difficult to ascertain an article's social context. The techniques disclosed herein address this problem by harnessing implicit and explicit contextual information from social media. By extracting text surrounding a hyperlink to an article in a post and assessing the article as a function of content surrounding the hyperlink, an article's social context is determined and presented. Additionally, articles that are sufficiently similar in content may be grouped to establish a many-to-one relationship between posts and an article, creating a more accurate assessment.12-24-2009

20100283781NAVIGATING AMONG IMAGES OF AN OBJECT IN 3D SPACE - A three-dimensional model of an object is employed to aid in navigation among a number of images of the object taken from various viewpoints. In general, an image of an object such as a digital photograph is displayed in a user interface or the like. When a user selects a point within the display that corresponds to a location on the surface of the object, another image may be identified that provides a better view of the object. In order to maintain user orientation to the subject matter while navigating to this destination viewpoint, the display may switch to a model view and a fly-over to the destination viewpoint may be animated using the model. When the destination viewpoint is reached, the display may return to an image view for further inspection, marking, or other manipulation by the user.11-11-2010
20110043613THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODEL REFINEMENT - A three-dimensional measurement is refined by warping two-dimensional images of an object from offset camera positions according to a three-dimensional model of the object, and applying any resulting discrepancies to refine the three-dimensional model, or to refine one of a number of three-dimensional measurements used to create the three-dimensional model.02-24-2011

20100323177Graphene oxide sheet laminate and method - A macroscale sheet laminate includes individual graphene oxide sheets layered one on another in a manner to form a self-supporting paper-like laminated product. The product can be fabricated by making a suspension of individual graphene oxide sheets and assembling the graphene oxide sheets as a laminate on a fluid-permeable support by flow-directed assembly. The laminate is dried and released from the membrane filter as a self-supporting sheet laminate.12-23-2010
20100323178Ceramic composite thin films - A ceramic composite thin film or layer includes individual graphene oxide and/or electrically conductive graphene sheets dispersed in a ceramic (e.g. silica) matrix. The thin film or layer can be electrically conductive film or layer depending the amount of graphene sheets present. The composite films or layers are transparent, chemically inert and compatible with both glass and hydrophilic SiOx/silicon substrates. The composite film or layer can be produced by making a suspension of graphene oxide sheet fragments, introducing a silica-precursor or silica to the suspension to form a sol, depositing the sol on a substrate as thin film or layer, at least partially reducing the graphene oxide sheets to conductive graphene sheets, and thermally consolidating the thin film or layer to form a silica matrix in which the graphene oxide and/or graphene sheets are dispersed.12-23-2010
20120006694Electrode for whole cell and other testing - A pushpen electrode is provided for electrophysiology measurements. The pushpen operation is used to impale a cell membrane in cell-attached configuration to go whole-cell without disruption of the gigaseal. The pushpen electrode has advantages over the conventional patch clamp electrode in reducing tip series resistance, increasing signal bandwidth, permitting longer-term recordings and reducing diffusion between the cytosol and the electrode solution.01-12-2012

20120078687SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR LOWEST COST AGGREGATE ENERGY DEMAND REDUCTION - A method, apparatus and computer program product for determining lowest cost aggregate energy demand reduction at multiple network levels such as distribution and feeder networks. An algorithm for an optimal incentive mechanism offered to energy customers (e.g. of a utility power entity) that accounts for heterogeneous customer flexibility in load reduction, with the demand response realized via the utility's rebate signal and, accounts for temporal aspects of demand shift in response for rebates. A mathematical formulation of a cost minimization problem is solved to provide incentives for customers to reduce their demand. A gradient descent algorithm is used to solve for the optimal incentives customized for individual end users.03-29-2012

20090078290CLEANING DEVICE - The present application relates to a method and device for cleaning surfaces. In one embodiment, a cleaning device includes a cleaning tool, a motor, a reservoir, an extractor, and a recovery tank. The reservoir stores fluid and may act as a base of the cleaning device. The extractor suctions used fluid from the surface and may be removably attached to the reservoir such that the extractor may be raised and lowered relative to the surface. The recovery tank stores the used fluid from the extractor and may be located adjacent the reservoir. The reservoir may also be formed to fit at least partially around the motor. The cleaning device may also be designed such that at least a portion of the weight of the fluid in the reservoir and the used fluid in the recovery tank is over the cleaning tool.03-26-2009

20110072781SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PASSIVELY DIRECTING AIRCRAFT ENGINE NOZZLE FLOWS - Systems and methods for passively directing aircraft engine nozzle flow are disclosed. One system includes an aircraft nozzle attachable to an aircraft turbofan engine, with the nozzle including a first flow path wall bounding a first flow path and being positioned to receive engine exhaust products, and a second flow path wall bounding a second flow path and being positioned to receive engine bypass air. The first flow path wall is positioned between the first and second flow paths, and the second flow path wall is positioned between the second flow path and an ambient air flow path. Multiple flow passages can be positioned in at least one of the first and second flow path walls to passively direct gas from a corresponding flow path within the flow path wall through the flow path wall to a corresponding flow path external to the flow path wall. Neighboring flow passages can have neighboring circumferentially-extending and circumferentially-spaced exit openings positioned at an interface with the corresponding flow path external to the flow path wall.03-31-2011
