20090064771METHOD OF OPERATING AN ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPE IN TAPPING MODE WITH A REDUCED IMPACT FORCE - In a tapping mode Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) system, a probe is excited at an excitation frequency other than the probe's first natural frequency to produce a response signal manifesting a grazing bifurcation between “non-collision” and “collision” states of the AFM system, so that an additional characteristic frequency component is generated in the “collision” state. The magnitude of the additional characteristic frequency component is monitored in real time, and the probe-sample separation is adjusted to maintain the monitored magnitude at an optimal value to operate the AFM system at near-grazing conditions.03-12-2009

20120014812Compressor Surge Control System and Method - A system and method for controlling gas surges in compressors powered by electric motors. An adjustable speed drive (ASD) incorporating a microprocessor powered by a three-phase source of electricity controls the electric motor which drives the compressor. A bypass valve is inserted between the gas input of the compressor and the gas discharge. The bypass valve opens in response to signals from the ASD which detects gas surges by analyzing a stored surge map which plots a surge line and a related discretionary control line based on the power and speed of the motor. When the operating point of the motor crosses the control line, the ASD causes the bypass valve to open.01-19-2012

20110207357ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HAVING FINGER-ACTUATED RETAINER - The present disclosure is directed to TPA connectors. The TPA connectors of the present disclosure can have a connector body that can include a plurality of cavities for receiving terminals. The TPA connectors can also include a retainer for locking the terminals in their seated position and for locking to the connector body to prevent unwanted removal thereof. The connector body can include posts with stop surfaces which can prevent the retainer from moving from a pre-lock position to a fully locked position by engaging contact surfaces on the locking arms of the retainer. The locking arms can be cantilevered and have outwardly directed projections to engage the posts for locking the retainer to the connector body. The locking arms can be deflected inwardly with a squeezing or pinching motion to disengage the contact surfaces from the stop surfaces of the posts and permitting the retainer to move to the fully locked position by pushing retainer towards the connector body. Once the projects pass the post, locking arms can be release to allow the projections to engage the posts to lock the retainer to the connector body.08-25-2011
