20100200041Modular solar photovoltaic canopy system for development of rail vehicle traction power - This invention provides a method by which rail systems can use air space above tracks and right of way for generating traction power for electric powered rail vehicles. Through the design and installation of rail-specific solar photovoltaic canopy modules, replicated and joined together in assemblies of various lengths, transit districts, rail agencies and operators can develop energy for rail vehicle traction power. Integrating solar PV technology and the supply and distribution of traction power can provide a rail system increased levels of energy independence, lower fixed energy cost over 25 to 30 years and the possibility of providing Carbon Neutral rail service.08-12-2010

20120070228PAVEMENT REHABILITATION USING COLD IN-PLACE ASPHALT PAVEMENT RECYCLING - A method of cold in-place recycling of asphalt to remediate distressed roads. Asphalt particles obtained by milling the existing asphalt are limited by screening to a maximum size of about one inch length. Asphalt particle size may be established by limiting tooth spacing of the road milling equipment milling head to about 5/16 inch or 8 millimeter spacing intervals. A predetermined proportion of portland cement, water, and asphalt emulsion are added to generate asphalt particles. Portland cement may be deposited onto the existing asphalt prior to milling. The resulting combination is mixed to generate a recycled mix, which may then be discharged onto the road being remediated and further processed, such as by screeding, compacting, and sealing.03-22-2012

20110093446WEB-BASED DECISION MATRIX DISPLAY - A tool, using an expressly programmed computer which is programmed with executable instructions, that utilizes data mined from web queries to populate a decision matrix for finding an outcome to a query. The decision matrix is a displayed spreadsheet having rows representing fields that are typical for the query. The web yields data that is extracted and stored in the fields for a plurality of such sites. Calculators or operator methods are used for displaying a desired outcome using the fields. The field data may be entered manually when not found on websites. Data may be changed from actual data to represent hypothetical situation or a data field may be deleted. Columnar data is operated upon to determine different outcomes for comparison.04-21-2011

20120073792APPARATUS FOR RECLAIMING WASTE HEAT FROM A HEATING DEVICE FLUE PIPE - A waste heat reclamation apparatus for reclaiming combustion gases from a heating unit. The apparatus includes a flue section that engages the given heating unit's flue stack and selectively bypasses flue gases into a bypass section of the apparatus. The bypass section includes a fluid jacket for heat transfer of waste heat in the flue gases to a heat absorbing fluid of a fluid-based heating system. The bypass section and flue section route flue gases by way of offset conduits which promotes swirling action of the flue gases within the bypass section. The fluid jacket also includes baffles which promote mixing of the heat absorbing fluid along a circuitous path. The swirling action and mixing in the circuitous path increase the efficiency of heat transfer without adding mechanical complexity to the apparatus.03-29-2012

20110187340EFFECTIVE CURRENT SENSING FOR HIGH VOLTAGE SWITCHING REGULATORS - A high voltage switching regulator has significantly reduced current sensing delay between measurement of input current and generation of sensed current values, while maintaining good accuracy of the current through a power transistor using current replication and a current conveyor. High sensing accuracy of the input current ensures good load regulation, and low sensing delay ensures fixed duty cycle over a wide range of output currents and high input to output voltage ratios. A current conveyor is used to transfer high side current values to low side control circuits, e.g., pulse width modulation (PWM) control. The current conveyor is always on, e.g., some current flow is always present, thus minimizing any current measurement delay. This is accomplished by dynamically biasing the current conveyor by draining to ground a current equal to the sensed current. Wherein balancing of the current conveyor is ensured and offset at the input of the current conveyor is minimized.08-04-2011
20120013322BUCK SWITCH-MODE POWER CONVERTER LARGE SIGNAL TRANSIENT RESPONSE OPTIMIZER - A switch mode power supply (SMPS) response to a disturbance is improved by using a hysteretic control in combination with a fixed frequency, pulse-width modulated (PWM) controller for providing robust control and optimizing the response to disturbances in buck or buck derived switch mode power supply (SMPS) system topologies.01-19-2012

20110006744SYSTEM, METHOD AND APPARATUS TO TRANSITION BETWEEN PULSE WIDTH MODULATION AND PULSE-FREQUENCY MODULATION IN A SWITCH MODE POWER SUPPLY - A switch mode power supply (SMPS) has optimized efficiency over an entire operating range, from no load to full load, by transitioning between pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and pulse width modulation (PWM) for control of the SMPS depending upon load current. Accurate, smooth, and seamless transitions between PFM and PWM modes of operation occur at a preset load current(s). PFM operation improves efficiency during light load conditions, and PWM has better efficiency at higher load currents. This is advantageous in battery powered applications, and thereby results in a longer time before battery replacement or recharge is necessary.01-13-2011
