METHODS FOR ESTABLISHING LEGITIMACY OF COMMUNICATIONS - A sender-side process directed to processing an electronic message destined for a recipient, comprising producing a solution to a computational problem involving at least a portion of the message. A degree of effort associated with solving the problem may be assessed. The message is further processed according to the degree of effort by determining whether the degree of effort was within a range set by the sender or the recipient and if not, the computational problem is adjusted and solved again. The message is then transmitted to a recipient, who is informed of both the problem and solution. The recipient executes a recipientside process, comprising: assessing the degree of effort associated with generation of the message based on the problem and solution; and further processing the message in accordance with the degree of effort. The degree of effort is indicative of the legitimacy of the message; e.g., is it “SPAM”. | 10-28-2010

System for Allocating a Chip Card to a Network Operator - A chip card needs to be allocated in a secured manner to a network operator via a personalization center in order to determine a final authentication key which is attributed to a subscriber of the operator without its being transmitted via a network. The following is loaded into a card by a module: an algorithm and an allocation key; an algorithm for determination of the authentication key and at least one intermediate authentication key. A module transmits an allocation message which includes a final identity number, a random number and an allocation signature from the center to the card. The card authenticates the message by means of the allocation algorithm as a function of the allocation key and the allocation signature, and determines the final authentication key as a function of the intermediate key and the random number. | 11-06-2008
GENERIC ELECTRONIC KEY PROVIDED WITH A CUSTOMIZED SMART CARD - A portable electronic device has a case including: a smart chip, an application which is stored in the smart chip, at least one interface for a user, and a microcontroller which controls the smart chip and the interface. The aforementioned microcontroller is configured to execute the primitive functions of the electronic key in order for the interface to be used, while the smart chip is configured to execute the application. The application is configured to generate calls to the primitive functions in order to communicate with the user by means of the interface. | 06-04-2009
Method of unblocking a locked application using a personal identification number - The invention relates to a method of securing applications on a chip card which is disposed in a digital appliance. A count is made of the number of times a personal identification number of a chip card application is input erroneously. When this number reaches a threshold, the application or the chip card is blocked. The erroneous input count and unblocking the chip card or the application is restarted when the personal identification number of the chip card is input. In this way, PIN-secured applications offer a high level of security without requiring the storing of additional unblocking data. | 06-25-2009

POOL SUCTION VALVE - A valve system for insertion between a cleaner hose and a pool suction line is mounted in a wall of the pool or skimmer box and comprises a valve with a gate pivoted in a housing which receives the end of the cleaner hose when the gate is open which is thereby juxtaposed in line with the pool suction line located in the pool wall or skimmer box. The juxtaposed ends of both the cleaner hose and the pool suction line have mating tapers and the valve rotates so that the tapered end of the inserted cleaner hose rotates into sealing engagement with the tapered end of the pool suction line. Further the gate of the valve closes automatically when the cleaner hose is withdrawn. | 06-24-2010

INTELLIGENT DESTINATION ELEVATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - An intelligent destination elevator control system streamlines the efficiency and control of destination elevators. The system monitors a building's population and predicts elevator traffic conditions. The system may monitor attributes of the destination elevators. Based on the monitored data, the system may generate a data structure that renders time-tables and target elevator service quality parameters that may control the destination elevators. A time-table and target elevator service quality parameters may be selected to control destination elevators according to one or more customer selectable mode of operation parameters. The data structure may be processed to control UP and/or DOWN transportation capacities of the destination elevators while satisfying the one or more customer selectable mode of operation parameters. | 02-26-2009
