DISPOSABLE VITRECTOMY HANDPIECE - Electric vitrectomy handpieces are provided. The handpiece includes a motor, a clutch mechanism, an oscillating drive mechanism, a cutting tip and a handle. The motor is attached to the clutch, and the clutch is attached to the oscillating drive mechanism. When the motor is operational, the clutch expands to engage the oscillating drive mechanism and the oscillating drive mechanism converts the rotational motion of the clutch to the reciprocating motion of the cutting tip. When the motor is at rest, the clutch retracts to allow aspiration. | 08-28-2008

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RANGING AND NOISE REDUCTION OF LOW COHERENCE INTERFEROMETRY LCI AND OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY OCT SIGNALS BY PARALLEL DETECTION OF SPECTRAL BANDS - Apparatus and method for increasing the sensitivity in the detection of optical coherence tomography and low coherence interferometry (“LCI”) signals by detecting a parallel set of spectral bands, each band being a unique combination of optical frequencies. The LCI broad bandwidth source is split into N spectral bands. The N spectral bands are individually detected and processed to provide an increase in the signal-to-noise ratio by a factor of N. Each spectral band is detected by a separate photo detector and amplified. For each spectral band the signal is band pass filtered around the signal band by analog electronics and digitized, or, alternatively, the signal may be digitized and band pass filtered in software. As a consequence, the shot noise contribution to the signal is reduced by a factor equal to the number of spectral bands. The signal remains the same. The reduction of the shot noise increases the dynamic range and sensitivity of the system. | 04-15-2010

PROCESS, SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE ARRANGEMENT FOR DETERMINING AT LEAST ONE LOCATION IN A SAMPLE USING AN OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY - A system, process and software arrangement are provided to determine at least one position of at least one portion of a sample. In particular, information associated with the portion of the sample is obtained. Such portion may be associated with an interference signal that includes a first electro-magnetic radiation received from the sample and a second electro-magnetic radiation received from a reference. In addition, depth information and/or lateral information of the portion of the sample, may be obtained. At least one weight function can be applied to the depth information and/or the lateral information so as to generate resulting information. Further, a surface position, a lateral position and/or a depth position of the portion of the sample may be ascertained based on the resulting information. | 05-24-2012

Gene regulation in transgenic animals using a transposon-based vector - Administration of modified transposon-based vectors has been used to achieve stable incorporation of exogenous genes into animals. These transgenic animals produce transgenic progeny. Further, these transgenic animals produce large quantities of desired molecules encoded by the transgene. Transgenic egg-laying animals produce large quantities of desired molecules encoded by the transgene and deposit these molecules in the egg. | 09-25-2008

DRILL STRING FLOW CONTROL VALVES AND METHODS - Drill string flow control valves and more particularly, drill string flow control valves for prevention of u-tubing of fluid flow in drill strings are provided. Drill string flow control valves may comprise a valve housing, a valve sleeve axially movable within a valve housing from a closed position to an open position, a piston axially movable within said valve housing and bearing against the valve sleeve, a biasing mechanism for biasing the valve sleeve into the closed position, a static pressure port for actuating said piston utilizing internal fluid pressure within said valve and a plurality of dynamic pressure ports for allowing a differential pressure to be exerted on the valve sleeve during dynamic flow conditions. The differential pressure exerted on the valve sleeve may be the result of an upstream pressure and a downstream pressure during fluid flow through said valve. By allowing a differential pressure resulting from a fluid flow to act on the valve sleeve, u-tubing in a drill string can be prevented or substantially reduced. Methods of use are also provided. | 08-27-2009

METHOD AND SYSTEM TO FACILITATE ON-LINE TRADING - A method and system to facilitate on-line transactions is presented. An example system, in one embodiment, comprises a content scanner, a security symbol resolver, a web page manipulator, an event detector, and a trading ticket activator. The content scanner may be configured to scan a web page in order to detect security symbol information. The page manipulator may be configured to insert a trading control into the web page to produce a trade-enabled web page. The trading control may be used by users accessing the trade-enabled web page to initiate trades using the trading service associated with the trading control. The system may be provided on a client (e.g., as a browser plug-in) or on a server, as a trading access module associated with a particular web site. | 12-30-2010
METHOD AND SYSTEM TO FACILITATE ON-LINE TRADING - A method and system to facilitate on-line trading is presented. An example system, in one embodiment, comprises a web page scanner, a trading control generator, an event detector, and a trading ticket generator. The web page scanner may be configured to scan a web page in order to detect security symbol information. The trading control generator may be configured to present a trading control to associate visually the trading control with the detected security symbol information, the trading control to access a trading service. The event detector may be configured to detect an event associated with the trading control, so that the trading ticket generator receives a request to launch a trading ticket associated with the security symbol information. A trading ticket may be then utilized by a user for submitting a security order using the trading service. | 12-30-2010
