20100262794Data backup for virtual machines - Methods and apparatus involve computing backup for virtual representations on a physical hardware platform. The platform has a processor, memory and available storage upon which a plurality of virtual machines are configured. Also, each virtual machine has a type of operating system that may be the same or different as another virtual machine. A plurality of virtual machine proxies exists as complements to the virtual machines in order to actually conduct the backup. Upon indication of a present need for conducting a backup operation, the proxy with an operating system most closely approximating or matching the operating system of the virtual machine needing backup is selected for undertaking the operation. In this manner, backup is no longer conducted with ill-fitting physical backup proxies with incompatible operating systems. In other embodiments, nuances of conducting backup are described as are templates and cloning. Computer program products are further described.10-14-2010

20090098875SMS ROUTING - Mobile terminals are operated in a mobile telecommunications system such as GSM routing data messages such as SMS messages to a destination address via a selected of plural routing centers. A terminal receives user generated data defining an outgoing message and generates a first data field containing a first routing center address, a second data field containing the destination address, and a third data field containing the user generated data. The terminal traps the outgoing message and compares the first routing center address and a second routing center address, determined by a system administrator, stored in a memory the user cannot write-access. If the addresses differ, the first routing center address is replaced by the second routing center address in the data field and the outgoing message is routed via a second routing center with the second routing center address. The administrator thereby controls message routing.04-16-2009

20090315971System and Method for Providing a Perception of a Continuous Surface in a Telepresence System - A method for preventing movement in a telepresence system, includes a plurality of cameras. Each camera has a respective field of vision for viewing one or more users. The fields of vision each have lateral boundaries. The system also includes a plurality of restrictive elements. Each restrictive element is positioned along a respective lateral boundary of a field of vision of the fields of vision of the plurality of cameras such that viewed users each positioned within a field of vision of the plurality of cameras are restricted by the plurality of restrictive elements from moving outside of the field of vision in which each viewed user is positioned.12-24-2009
20100225732SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING THREE DIMENSIONAL VIDEO CONFERENCING IN A NETWORK ENVIRONMENT - A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving data indicative of a personal position of an end user. A media stream is selected from a plurality of media streams to be transmitted to the end user based on the personal position. The selected media stream includes image data of an object captured by a camera and the image data is used to construct a three-dimensional rendering of the object. In more specific embodiments, the media stream selection is executed by a server configured to be coupled to a network. The camera can be part of a plurality of cameras that capture image data associated with the object and that transmit respective media streams over a network. Once a camera begins transmitting image data over the network and to the end user, other cameras from the plurality of cameras stop transmitting their respective media streams over the network.09-09-2010
20100283829SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TRANSLATING COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS IN A CONFERENCING ENVIRONMENT - A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving audio data from a video conference and translating the audio data from a first language to a second language, wherein the translated audio data is played out during the video conference. The method also includes suppressing additional audio data until the translated audio data has been played out during the video conference. In more specific embodiments, the video conference includes at least a first end user, a second end user, and a third end user. In other embodiments, the method may include notifying the first and third end users of the translating of the audio data. The notifying can include generating an icon for a display being seen by the first and third end users, or using a light signal on a respective end user device configured to receive audio data from the first and third end users.11-11-2010

20090281611SLIDING RESTRAINT STENT DELIVERY SYSTEMS - Medical device and methods for delivery or implantation of prostheses within hollow body organs and vessels or other luminal anatomy are disclosed. The subject technologies may be used in the treatment of atherosclerosis in stenting procedures. For such purposes, a self-expanding stent may be deployed in connection with an angioplasty procedure with a sliding restraint based delivery system adapted for simplified use. In the system, the sliding restraint is sized, in coordination with a fixed sleeve accepting a core wire to actuate the restraint to effect an anchoring function with the sleeve so that the stent is not inadvertently advanced during deployment.11-12-2009
