20110268147THERMAL ANALYSIS - Techniques for determining one or more heat transfer characteristic values of a structure, such as an electronic device, are disclosed. A heat flux vector magnitude and a temperature gradient vector magnitude for a portion of the structure are determined, and a product of the heat flux vector magnitude with the temperature gradient vector magnitude is obtained. More particularly, the dot product of the heat flux vector magnitude with the temperature gradient vector magnitude may be obtained to provide a bottleneck heat transfer characteristic value. Alternately or additionally, a cross product (or related operation) of the heat flux vector magnitude with the temperature gradient vector magnitude is obtained to produce a shortcut heat transfer characteristic value.11-03-2011

20080205570Unlock Mode in Source Synchronous Receivers - A phase locked loop generates an output corresponding to a source synchronous input and an input link clock signal. A phase locking feedback system receives the input and an input link clock signal and detects phase deviations between the output and the input. The phase locking feedback system also adjusts an adjusted clock signal based on the phase deviations thereby causing the phase locking feedback system to generate the output so that the output has a steady phase relationship with the input. A first mechanism causes the phase locking feedback system not to track phase deviations between the output and the input upon occurrence of a first predefined event, thereby maintaining the adjusted clock signal at a current state.08-28-2008

20080262978Mail processing system including dimensional rating with true length support - A mail processing system that includes dimensional rating capability that provides true length support for carrier rates to prevent improper classification of mail pieces. The mail processing system determines a first dimension, parallel to the path of travel, and a second dimension, transverse to the path of travel, of a mail piece. The first dimension and second dimension are compared to each other to determine which is greater. The greater of the two dimensions is assigned to be the length of the mail piece, regardless of the orientation of the mail piece. The format of the mail piece is then determined based on a comparison of the assigned length and assigned width dimensions to maximum dimensions specified by a format table. Based on the determined format of the mail piece, a delivery fee is then calculated, and an indicium can be generated for the mail piece.10-23-2008
20090020946METHOD FOR DETECTING PAPER FEED SHINGLING ERRORS AND SYNCHRONIZING A PRINTER AND A FEEDER - A method of synchronizing the feeding and printing of sheets of media, i.e., paper, envelopes, post cards, etc. even though shingled feeds have occurred in the system. The foregoing is accomplished by utilizing two sensors and counters to monitor two sheets of paper to allow two software tasks to stay in synchronization and release the appropriate print data to the printer even when a sheet of paper was not detected in the feeder appears at the print head. The feeder sensor has a counter for its Lead Edge as does the Start of Print Sensor that is in the system's transport paper path. The feeder sensor counter and the start of print counter are incremented and decremented as the paper approaches the sensor and leaves the sensor. If the lead edge counter of the feeder sensor goes negative, then the feeder has shingled and the data for that sheet of paper must be printed.01-22-2009
20090046116PRINT ARCHITECTURE FOR DRIVING MULTIPLE PRINT HEADS - A system architecture is provided for a fixed-head mailpiece printer. The printer includes at least two laterally and longitudinally-spaced print heads for depositing ink on a face surface of a mailpiece. The print system architecture includes print application software or software program code operative to render print image data into a plurality of logical rectangular bitmap print buffers. Further, a field programmable gate array (FPGA) remaps each of the logical rectangular bitmap print buffers into one of the print heads based upon its spatial position relative to the mailpiece. Furthermore, the FPGA is operative to control the deposition of ink from the print heads based upon the print image data contained in the print buffers. Moreover, the FPGA minimizes processing time associated with print image rendering to achieve enhanced print system throughput.02-19-2009
20100157327METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A FEED RATE OF A PRINTER, AND PRINTER EMPLOYING SAME - A method of controlling a feed rate of a printer, and a printer employing same, wherein the printer includes a feeder motor driving a feeder mechanism and a transport motor driving a transport mechanism. The method includes receiving image data for a first item of print media in a print job, processing the image data to create printable image data, and determining an image preparation time that is a time difference between the time when the printable image data is completed and the time when the start of the image data is first received. The method then further includes determining a current feeder speed based on at least the image preparation time. Following that that determination, the method includes: (i) turning the transport motor on, and (ii) setting a speed of the feeder motor equal to the current feeder speed and thereafter turning the feeder motor on.06-24-2010

20110195179REFLECTIVE SUBSTRATE SURFACE SYSTEM, REFLECTIVE ASSEMBLY, AND METHODS OF IMPROVING THE VISIBILITY OF A SUBSTRATE SURFACE - The present invention provides a marking system adapted for coating a surface of a substrate in which a drying agent is used. According to a first aspect of the invention, a binder layer, such as paint, is applied to the surface. A drying agent is dispensed into the spray of a binder and becomes incorporated with the binder on the substrate surface. The incorporation of the drying agent into the binder prior to application on the surface provides improved mixing of the drying agent and binder and improved performance. According to a second aspect of the invention, a combination of optical elements and a drying agent are stored in a common hopper and are dispensed into the spray of the binder and become incorporated with the binder on the substrate surface. The mixture of optical elements and drying agent prevents coagulation of the drying agent and the resulting clogging of the dispenser.08-11-2011
