Detection of bioagents using a shear horizontal surface acoustic wave biosensor - Viruses and other bioagents are of high medical and biodefense concern and their detection at concentrations well below the threshold necessary to cause health hazards continues to be a challenge with respect to sensitivity, specificity, and selectivity. Ideally, assays for accurate and real time detection of viral agents and other bioagents would not necessitate any pre-processing of the analyte, which would make them applicable for example to bodily fluids (blood, sputum) and man-made as well as naturally occurring bodies of water (pools, rivers). We describe herein a robust biosensor that combines the sensitivity of surface acoustic waves (SAW) generated at a frequency of 325 MHz with the specificity provided by antibodies and other ligands for the detection of viral agents. In preferred embodiments, a lithium tantalate based SAW transducer with silicon dioxide waveguide sensor platform featuring three test and one reference delay lines was used to adsorb antibodies directed against Coxsackie virus B4 or the negative-stranded category A bioagent Sin Nombre virus (SNV), a member of the genus Hantavirus, family Bunyaviridae, negative-stranded RNA viruses. Rapid detection (within seconds) of increasing concentrations of viral particles was linear over a range of order of magnitude for both viruses, although the sensor was approximately 50×10 | 03-03-2011

Apparatus for inserting flexible medical implant - A device for injecting flexible implants, such as an implantable collamer lens (ICL) is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment it includes, a chamber in which the implant is placed, an injection tube through which the implant will pass, the chamber and tube forming a channel along which is a guide. | 08-21-2008
Devices, Systems and Methods for Treating an Eye - Devices, systems, and methods useful in treating an eye are provided herein. Certain embodiments of the devices, systems, and methods may be particularly suitable in maintaining separation of an anterior capsule and a posterior capsule of an evacuated lens capsule of an eye. Certain embodiments of the devices, systems, and methods may be particularly suitable for reducing scarring in the visual field of an eye having a capsulorhexis, among other things. | 12-02-2010
Intracapsular Pseudophakic Device - Intraocular devices for use in and attached to the natural lens capsule of an eye are provided. The lens capsule may be maintained in a configuration to avoid post-operative changes that are deleterious to vision. Single or dual optic systems are provided, which may be accommodating. Combinations of devices to obtain dual optic systems are disclosed. | 12-23-2010
Sonic Device for Use in Capsule of Eye - This invention relates to an improved procedure for polishing the interior of the lens capsule after the lens is removed. The procedure includes removing the phacoemulsification instrument from the eye after the lens and cortex material have been removed and then placing a novel sonic tip over or within the needle portion of the instrument. The tip portion of the instrument is then reinserted into the lens capsule with a lower ultrasonic energy level. The sonic tip is then placed in close proximity or in direct contact with the interior surface of the lens capsule to remove any remaining small particles of the cortex or other cells. | 03-03-2011
