20100114133SURGICAL CLIP - A clip is provided that can be used for ligating tissue, such as vessels, other tubular ducts, and the like. The clip has opposed first and second leg members having proximal and distal ends. The proximal end of each leg member is connected by an apex having a notch formed therein. Moreover, each leg member has an inner tissue-contacting surface and an outer compression-receiving surface, both of which include features to provide a more secure ligation of the vessel or duct. A method for ligating vessels is also provided.05-06-2010
20100264193SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENT WITH AN ARTICULATABLE END EFFECTOR - In various embodiments, a surgical instrument can comprise an end effector including a channel configured to support a staple cartridge and, in addition, an anvil pivotable between open and closed positions relative to the staple cartridge channel. The surgical instrument can further comprise a closure tube configured to at least partially surround the anvil and the staple cartridge channel to hold the anvil in a closed position. The closure tube can extend around the anvil a greater distance than the staple cartridge channel. The surgical instrument can further comprise a shaft and, in addition, an articulation joint pivotably connecting the end effector to the shaft. The articulation joint can further comprise a floating guide member which can guidably support a knife bar extending into the end effector and, at the same time, move independently of the end effector and the shaft to provide such support.10-21-2010
20100264194SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENT WITH AN ARTICULATABLE END EFFECTOR - A surgical instrument can comprise a channel configured to support a staple cartridge and, in addition, an anvil pivotable between open and closed positions relative to the channel. The surgical instrument can further comprise a cutting member configured to incise tissue positioned captured between the staple cartridge and the anvil and, in addition, means for stopping the cutting member prior to a distal end datum, wherein the distal end datum can be defined by the distal-most staple cavity in the staple cartridge. In such embodiments, the incision within the tissue may not extend beyond the portion of the tissue that has been stapled.10-21-2010

20100110604ELECTROSTATIC CHUCK GROUND PUNCH - An electrostatic chuck and method for clamping a workpiece is provided. The ESC comprises a clamping plate having a clamping surface, and one or more electrodes. An electric potential applied to the one or more electrodes selectively clamps the workpiece to the clamping surface. A punch is operably coupled to the clamping plate and an electrical ground, wherein the punch comprises a trigger mechanism and a punch tip. The punch tip translates between extended and retracted positions, wherein a point of the punch tip is proud of the clamping surface when the punch tip is in the extended position. The punch tip is configured to translate toward the clamping surface upon clamping the workpiece to the clamping plate. Upon reaching the retracted position, the trigger mechanism imparts an impact force to the punch tip, forcing the punch tip into the workpiece and providing an electrical ground connection to the workpiece.05-06-2010

20080210197Method for exhaust gas temperature control via engine braking in an internal combustion engine - Systems for, and methods of, controlling exhaust gas temperature in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine during positive power operation of the engine are disclosed. Control of exhaust gas temperature may be desired to improve emissions performance in the engine, which is often dependent upon exhaust gas temperature. One or more temperature probes may be used to first determine the actual exhaust gas temperature of the engine while it is operated in a positive power mode. Next, an ECM or similar device may be used to determine a temperature difference between the actual exhaust gas temperature and a desired exhaust gas temperature for emissions performance. Based on the determined temperature difference, one or more cylinders of the engine may continue to be operated in positive power mode while one or more cylinders of the engine are switched to operating in a selected engine braking mode. The operation of some cylinders in positive power mode while operating other cylinders in engine braking mode may cause the actual exhaust gas temperature to change and more closely match the desired exhaust gas temperature.09-04-2008
