ACCESSING INFORMATION FROM A REMOVABLE STORAGE UNIT - A system comprising a processor and a removable solid-state storage unit adapted to be accessed by the processor and comprising information. Upon detecting the presence of the storage unit, the processor copies the information to a system storage coupled to the processor. The processor accesses the information from the system storage in response to a request to access a different storage apparatus. | 09-25-2008
SOFTWARE-BASED POWER CAPPING - The present invention relates to power consumption, and specifically an apparatus, method, and computer readable medium to manage and control power consumption in computer systems. Specifically, the present invention manages power consumption by controlling the types of threads that are executed by the processor. The present invention monitors the resources of the system to determine the power consumption of the system. If the power consumption is too high, the present invention issues more low power threads to be executed by the processor. | 01-20-2011
SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF COMPONENT VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT - Systems and methods for adjusting component voltage are disclosed. One example method includes: reading, over a control bus, a present value of voltage supplied to a component; comparing the present value of the voltage component to a predetermined minimum voltage associated with the component; and writing, over the control bus, a current setting that affects voltage provided to the component, wherein the writing is responsive to the comparison. | 03-31-2011

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INFLUENCING A POSITION ON A SEARCH RESULT LIST GENERATED BY A COMPUTER NETWORK SEARCH ENGINE - A system and method for enabling information providers using a computer network such as the Internet to influence a position for a search listing within a search result list generated by an Internet search engine. The system and method of the present invention provides a database having accounts for the network information providers. Each account contains at least one search listing having at least three components: a description, a search term comprising one or more keywords, and a bid amount. The network information provider may add, delete, or modify a search listing after logging into his or her account via an authentication process. The network information provider influences the position for a search listing through a continuous online competitive bidding process. The bidding process occurs when the network information provider enters a new bid amount, which is preferably a money amount, for a search listing. The system then compares this bid amount with all other bid amounts for the same search term, and generates a rank value for all search listings having that search term. The rank value generated by the bidding process determines where the network information providers listing will appear on the search results list page that is generated in response to a query of the search term by a searcher located at a client computer on the computer network. A higher bid by a network information provider will result in a higher rank value and a more advantageous placement. | 01-27-2011

IDENTIFYING COMMUNICATION ERRORS CAUSED BY THE EXCHANGE OF UNSUPPORTED MESSAGES AMONG DEVICES IN A NETWORK - A method, and an apparatus, system, and sequences of instructions that operate in accordance with the method, for identifying errors in communications in a system that provides services. In the method, control messages are generated and sent to a network device. Error information generated in response to an unsupported control message being received by the network device, from at least one controlling device, is stored in the network device. The error information stored in the network device is retrieved, and errors in communications between the network device and the controlling device are identified, based on the error information retrieved. | 06-11-2009
