MATERIALS AND PROCESSES FOR REDUCING COMBUSTION BY-PRODUCTS IN A LUBRICATION SYSTEM FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE - A lubrication system having an oil filter modified to replace or supplement the performance of lubricant additives that may be used within an internal combustion engine to increase the performance of a lubricant. The formulation of the lubricant is changed in accordance with the chemicals placed in the oil filter. For example, when the oil filter contains a strong base, the lubricant concentration of detergent will decrease, in some cases to zero, while the dispersant concentration in the lubricant will increase. The dispersant is the ideal weak base to neutralize combustion acid at the piston ring zone, carry the resultant weak base-combustion acid complex to the strong base in the oil filter, undergo ion exchange with the strong base, immobilize the acid in the oil filter and recycle back to the piston ring zone for reuse as an acid neutralization agent. The reduction or elimination of detergent from the lubricant will reduce the fouling of the emission filter and of deposit formation on engine parts such as the piston. The oil filter may also contain an additive which is slowly released into the lubricant. For example, a ZnDDP anti-wear additive may be slowly released from the oil filter to the lubricant. Because the ZnDDP has low molecular weight alkyl groups it has limited solubility in the lubricant. The rate of release is limited by the equilibrium concentration of the additive in the lubricant. As a result, a relatively constant concentration of the additive may be maintained in the lubricant. The resultant closed system allows the oil drain intervals to be significantly extended. | 06-04-2009
Oil Filters Containing Strong Base and Methods of Their Use - Novel filter elements for sequestering acids from oil or fuel, the strong base floes that comprise the filter elements, and methods of their preparation and use are disclosed. The filter elements comprise a mechanically linked interlocking fiber matrix interspersed with strong base particle floes wherein the strong base particles constitute at least 30% by weight of the filter element. Certain filter elements may be useful for sequestering acids or neutralized acids in certain oils or fuels, for example, the acids originating in the combustion and lubrication system of an internal combustion engine or those contained in oils in an oil circulation system. Other filter elements may be useful for reducing oxidation of an oil. | 08-06-2009

CONVERTIBLE BLOWER/VACUUM - A convertible blower/vacuum for selectively blowing or vacuuming debris. The blower/vacuum may include a housing to which a blower/vacuum tube is coupled. The tube may be movable, relative to the housing, to allow a primary passageway of the tube to selectively communicate with either an air inlet of the housing or an air outlet. The blower/vacuum may further include a vacuum receptacle having an opening that selectively communicates with the air outlet when the passageway of the tube communicates with the air inlet. | 10-01-2009

Dual-Polarized Antenna Array - According to one embodiment, an antenna array includes a plurality of first antenna elements having a first polarity and a plurality of second antenna elements having a second polarity. A feed circuit couples the plurality of first antenna elements and the plurality of second antenna elements to an antenna drive circuit. The feed circuit is configured on a plurality of columns extending in a direction that is oblique to the plurality of first antenna elements and the plurality of second antenna elements. | 12-24-2009
COMPOSITE RADOME AND RADIATOR STRUCTURE - A composite radome structure includes a first structural laminate layer having an outer radome surface, a second structural laminate layer comprising an inner radome surface, and an antenna having a screen, wherein the screen is inserted between the first and the second structural laminate layers. | 08-05-2010

Method of Making an Arrangement for Collecting or Emitting Light - Disclosed is a method of making an arrangement for collecting or emitting light. A flexible sheet of material serves as substrate for a plurality of light collecting or emitting devices mounted in spaced relation on the sheet. The sheet has thereon electrical leads for interconnection to each device. For each device, a respective light coupler is formed by (1) forming a plurality of reflectors on the sheet around the intended periphery of the respective device, by applying reflective material to selected areas of the sheet; (2) forming cut lines around selected edges of the plurality of reflectors; (3) forming fold lines associated with the reflectors; and (4) folding the reflectors and attached substrate away from the substrate portion on which the device is mounted, to form a coupler whose interior is reflective and that is substantially closed around a main axis of light propagation into or from the respective device. | 08-11-2011
