20080200434Chemical Target-Binding Compositions - Herein is described compositions and methods for modulating and regulating the concentration of a chemical target in an organism or in an ecosystem. In one embodiment, the concentration is regulated such that it is maintained below or above a certain threshold, thus avoiding toxic or harmful effects of the chemical target. The described compositions may, for example, be implanted in a human body or placed in the ecosystem. The compositions comprise binding moieties that reversibly bind to a chemical target in the organism or ecosystem. The binding capacity and the binding constants for a chemical target are designed such that the composition maintains the concentration of the chemical target substantially within a beneficial range of concentrations.08-21-2008
20080312315Multifunctional Compounds for Forming Crosslinked Biomaterials and Methods of Preparation and Use - Multifunctional compounds are provided that readily crosslink in situ to provide crosslinked biomaterials. The multifunctional compounds contain a single component having at least three reactive functional groups thereon, with the functional groups selected so as to be non-reactive in an initial environment and inter-reactive in a modified environment. Reaction of a plurality of the multifunctional compounds results in a three-dimensional crosslinked matrix. In one embodiment, a first functional group is nucleophilic, a second functional group is electrophilic, and at least one additional functional group is nucleophilic or electrophilic. Methods for preparing and using the multifunctional compounds, and kits including the multifunctional compounds are also provided. Exemplary uses for the multifunctional compounds include tissue augmentation, biologically active agent delivery, bioadhesion, and prevention of adhesions following surgery or injury.12-18-2008
20090028957Implantable Tissue-Reactive Biomaterial Compositions and Systems, and Methods of Us Thereof - The invention pertains to biomaterial compositions and implantable systems for application to a tissue site in a living mammalian body. The compositions and systems react with tissue surfaces and components present in physiological fluids at the region of implantation, obviating the need to remove such fluids and improving the adhesion and resorption rate of the resulting bioimplant. Delivery devices and methods of use are also provided.01-29-2009
20090117070Methods and Crosslinked Polymer Compositions for Cartilage Repair - A method of repairing damaged cartilage and soft tissue in a patient is provided using a biocompatible, non-immunogenic composition. The composition comprises a hydrophilic polymer and a plurality of crosslinkable components having reactive functional groups. The composition used in the method may be loaded with biologically active agents for delivery to the damaged tissues. Kits for use in carrying out the method of the invention are also provided.05-07-2009

20090017091STERILE HYALURONIC ACID POLYMER COMPOSITIONS AND RELATED METHODS - The present application provides sterile hyaluronic polymer compositions than are useful, e.g., as medical devices, biomedical adhesives, and sealants. Generally, provided are sterile dry compositions comprising a thiol-derivatized hyaluronic acid and one or more stabilizing excipients. Also provided are related kits and methods. The compositions described herein are particularly robust to sterilizing irradiation, and substantially maintain both their molecular weight and gelation parameters such as gelation time after sterilization, such that such sterile compositions are capable of hydrogel formation.01-15-2009
