20090026173METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR WELDING AN ARTICLE - Disclosed is a method for welding an article, the method including the steps of placing the article in an enclosure with walls that enclose the article on all sides, the enclosure having a heating device associated therewith, the heating device configured and sized to uniformly heat the article over at least a substantial entirety of the article, establishing a nonreactive atmosphere in the enclosure, operating the heating device to uniformly heat the article in the enclosure to a welding temperature over at least the substantial entirety of the article, and welding the article in the enclosure while maintaining the welding temperature over at least the substantial entirety of the article.01-29-2009
20100025382STRATEGICALLY PLACED LARGE GRAINS IN SUPERALLOY CASTING TO IMPROVE WELDABILITY - Process for reducing cracking in superalloy metal components by selectively growing large single grains during the casting operation at a region where fusion welding will be required.02-04-2010
20100050521METHODS TO FACILITATE COOLING SYNGAS IN A GASIFIER - A method of cooling syngas in a gasifier is provided. The method includes channeling cooling fluid through at least one tube-bundle that includes at least three tubes coupled together within a radiant syngas cooler and extends through a reaction zone of the gasifier, and circulating reactant fluid around the at least one tube-bundle to facilitate transferring heat from the reactant fluid to the cooling fluid.03-04-2010
20100243621HIGH-POWERED LASER BEAM WELDING AND ASSEMBLY THEREFOR - A welding method and an assembly for performing the method. Articles to be welded are placed together so that faying surfaces thereof face each other, a joint region is defined by the faying surfaces and juxtaposed surfaces of the articles, a shim is between and contacts the faying surfaces, and an edge portion of the shim protrudes from the juxtaposed surfaces. The articles are welded together by projecting onto the joint region a high-powered laser beam that is focused on the juxtaposed surfaces and intentionally unfocused on the edge portion of the shim so that portions of the laser beam are diffracted by the edge portion onto the juxtaposed surfaces. The laser beam and its diffracted portions melt the shim and the faying and juxtaposed surfaces of the articles. Cooling of the articles yields a welded assembly having a weld joint entirely through a through-thickness of the welded assembly.09-30-2010
20100282719VENTED SHIM BEAM WELDING PROCESS - A method and system are disclosed for beam welding two members made of a metallic material. The method comprising placing a first shim along a weld joint faying surface between the two members of the metallic material, placing a second shim along the weld joint faying surface between the two members of the metallic material and at a distance from the first shim to create a first vent path between the first and the second shim and beam welding the members of the metallic material with the shim to create a porosity free weld.11-11-2010
20110042361SYSTEM AND METHOD OF DUAL LASER BEAM WELDING OF FIRST AND SECOND FILLER METALS - A system and method for laser beam welding at least two adjacent superalloy components involves substantially simultaneous formation of a base weld with a first filler metal placed between the components and cap weld with second filler metal formed over the base weld. A shim is inserted between the components, which may optionally be formed with a groove along the joint surface. A filler wire is fed to a location over the given surface or within the optional groove. Two lasers or a laser and coupled beam splitter supply first and second laser beams that are applied at focal points separated by a predetermined distance (e.g., 0.05-1.5 cm). The first laser beam is used to form a base weld with the first filler metal between the components, and the second laser beam is used to form a cap weld with the second filler metal on top of the base weld.02-24-2011
20110062220SUPERALLOY COMPOSITION AND METHOD OF FORMING A TURBINE ENGINE COMPONENT - A nickel-base composition is disclosed that includes: 03-17-2011
20110064584APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR A TURBINE BUCKET TIP CAP - A turbine bucket that includes a pressure side, a suction side opposite the pressure side, and a rib extending between the pressure side and the suction side. A tip cap is attached to the pressure side and the suction side and covers the rib. The tip cap includes a precipitation hardened material and a passage aligned with the rib. A method for assembling a turbine bucket having a pressure side and a suction side and a rib extending between the pressure side and suction side. The method includes receiving a tip cap made from a precipitation hardened material and having a passage in the tip cap. The method further includes locating the rib visually through the passage and aligning the passage with the rib. The method also includes welding the tip cap to the turbine bucket and to the rib.03-17-2011
20110164989FATIGUE LOAD RESISTANT STRUCTURES AND WELDING PROCESSES - A fatigue load resistant structure includes a fatigue loaded portion and a weldable fatigue loading resistant feature. The fatigue loaded portion includes a first elongation material. The weldable fatigue loading resistant feature includes a second elongation material secured to the fatigue loaded portion of the fatigue loaded structure. The first elongation material is less ductile than the second elongation material, and the weldable fatigue loading resistant feature can reduce, retard, or eliminate formation of cracks due to tensile and compressive forces.07-07-2011
20110165432POWDER METALLURGICAL ARTICLE AND PROCESS - A powder metallurgical article and process are disclosed. The article is a repaired or enlarged powder metallurgical article. The repaired or enlarged powder metallurgical article includes a formed article including a first alloy and a material including a second alloy. The material is welded to the formed article to form the repaired or enlarged powder metallurgical article. The repaired or enlarged powder metallurgical article includes a substantially uniform grain structure.07-07-2011
