Method of remote powering and detecting multiple UWB passive tags in an RFID system - A new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), tracking, powering apparatus/system and method using coded Ultra-wideband (UWB) signaling is introduced. The proposed hardware and techniques disclosed herein utilize a plurality of passive UWB transponders in a field of an RFID-radar system. The radar system itself enables multiple passive tags to be remotely powered (activated) at about the same time frame via predetermined frequency UWB pulsed formats. Once such tags are in an activated state, an UWB radar transmits specific “interrogating codes” to put predetermined tags in an awakened status. Such predetermined tags can then communicate by a unique “response code” so as to be detected by an UWB system using radar methods. | 10-16-2008
UWB DUAL BURST TRANSMIT DRIVER - A dual burst transmitter for ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems generates a pair of precisely spaced RF bursts from a single trigger event. An input trigger pulse produces two oscillator trigger pulses, an initial pulse and a delayed pulse, in a dual trigger generator. The two oscillator trigger pulses drive a gated RF burst (power output) oscillator. A bias driver circuit gates the RF output oscillator on and off and sets the RF burst packet width. The bias driver also level shifts the drive signal to the level that is required for the RF output device. | 07-01-2010
Ultra-wideband radios for time-of-flight-ranging and network position estimation - This invention provides a novel high-accuracy indoor ranging device that uses ultra-wideband (UWB) RF pulsing with low-power and low-cost electronics. A unique of the present invention is that it exploits multiple measurements in time and space for very accurate ranging. The wideband radio signals utilized herein are particularly suited to ranging in harsh RF environments because they allow signal reconstruction in spite of multipath propagation distortion. Furthermore, the ranging and positioning techniques discussed herein directly address many of the known technical challenges encountered in UWB localization regarding synchronization and sampling. In the method developed, noisy, corrupted signals can be recovered by repeating range measurements across a channel, and the distance measurements are combined from many locations surrounding the target in a way that minimizes the range biases associated to indirect flight paths and through-wall propagation delays. | 09-09-2010
UWB DELAY AND MULTIPLY RECEIVER - An ultra-wideband (UWB) delay and multiply receiver is formed of a receive antenna; a variable gain attenuator connected to the receive antenna; a signal splitter connected to the variable gain attenuator; a multiplier having one input connected to an undelayed signal from the signal splitter and another input connected to a delayed signal from the signal splitter, the delay between the splitter signals being equal to the spacing between pulses from a transmitter whose pulses are being received by the receive antenna; a peak detection circuit connected to the output of the multiplier and connected to the variable gain attenuator to control the variable gain attenuator to maintain a constant amplitude output from the multiplier; and a digital output circuit connected to the output of the multiplier. | 09-16-2010
UWB TRANSMITTER - An ultra-wideband (UWB) dual impulse transmitter is made up of a trigger edge selection circuit actuated by a single trigger input pulse; a first step recovery diode (SRD) based pulser connected to the trigger edge selection circuit to generate a first impulse output; and a second step recovery diode (SRD) based pulser connected to the trigger edge selection circuit in parallel to the first pulser to generate a second impulse output having a selected delay from the first impulse output. | 01-20-2011

Lightweight conveyor roller - A roller made lighter through the use of lightening elements. The inventive roller, with its lightening element(s), is lighter yet maintains its overall dimensions, is strong and durable enough to withstand the rigors of the transportation industry and/or is cost effective to produce and maintain. The lightweight roller may be part of a system having at least one operable roller unit, each roller unit having a roller, cylindrical in shape having a length and a diameter, and a center aperture extending through the length of the roller, an axel/shaft having a diameter sized to rotatably fit within the central aperture of the roller, the shaft further having a retention mechanism located upon the shaft ends and an elongate “U” shaped roller rack, the roller rack sized to extend the length of the roller and having a pair of upwardly extending arms located adjacent the ends of the roller, each arm end having an aperture sized to receive the respective shaft end and locate the shaft with the roller in a fixed location. The roller system has at least one roller, preferably more or all of the rollers, having internal and/or external lightening elements. | 11-05-2009
