ENHANCED RELIABILITY FOR SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES USING DIELECTRIC ENCASEMENT - A method and device for enhanced reliability for semiconductor devices using dielectric encasement is disclosed. The method and device are directed to improving the reliability of the solder joint that connects the integrated circuit (IC) chip to the substrate. The method comprises applying a layer of a photoimageable permanent dielectric material to a top surface of the semiconductor device, and patterning the layer of the photoimageable permanent dielectric material to have an opening over each feature. The method further comprises dispensing or stencil printing fluxing material into the permanent dielectric material openings, and applying solder, which contains no flux, to a top surface of the fluxing material. In one or more embodiments, the method further comprises heating the semiconductor device to a reflow temperature appropriate for the reflow of the solder, thereby causing the solder to conform to sidewalls of the permanent dielectric material openings to form a protective seal. | 02-11-2010

Portable Multi-Functional Audio Sound System and Method Therefor - A portable multi-functional audio sound system has an enclosure and control panel with an optional display on a front portion of the enclosure. The control panel provides for selection among menu options which are presented on the display. An audio input is coupled for receiving a live audio signal. An electronic circuit receives user commands from the control panel and displays configuration information on the display. The electronic circuit has an amplifier for amplifying the live audio signal, and a synthesizer for generating programmable audio signal in response to a MIDI data stream. The MIDI data stream is routed to the digital signal processor or to the synthesizer. A digital signal processor controls the menu options on the display. A speaker is mounted within the enclosure and coupled for receiving a combined signal of the live audio signal and the programmable audio signal. | 07-22-2010

Audio Amplifier Attachable to Speaker System by Way of Magnetic Coupler and Method Therefor - An audio system comprises a first enclosure for housing a first audio component and a second enclosure for housing a second audio component. The first enclosure includes a surface having a plurality of first structures, the first structures comprising one selected from a group consisting of a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of receptacles. The second enclosure includes a surface having a plurality of second structures, the second structures comprising the other one from the group consisting of the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of receptacles. The protrusions are configured to be inserted into the receptacles along a first direction such that the first enclosure is maintained in a first position relative to the second enclosure in the presence of a shear force that is applied in a direction that is perpendicular to the first direction. | 12-30-2010

Rug Anti-slip Device - A Rug Anti-slip Device. The device includes a pin-shaped element that has a sharpened tip end for poking through a mat and into the underlying carpet. The device further has a handle tab made from plastic or other suitably durable and aesthetically pleasing material. The handle tab is designed to stay above the surface of the mat or rug when the pin-shaped element is holding the mat or rug in place. The upper face of the handle tab may have indicia inscribed upon it, or embossed/raised above it in order to provide a decorative aspect to the device beyond the utilitarian purpose of holding the mat or rug in place. | 07-21-2011

Technique For Bypassing an IP PBX - A method for establishing communication via a VoIP network bypasses the IP PBX component conventionally used to obtain address information. Instead of obtaining the IP address from a location register of the IP PBX, the method involves use of a server configured to assign and provide to the caller's communication device a unique address (IP address/port) of a proxy. The caller then sends a Short Message Service (SMS) text message to the callee with the assigned address of the proxy. Thereafter, the caller and the callee connect at the assigned address of the proxy, thereby forming a communication path. Preferably, the devices operated by the parties are conventional smart phones. According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the method further comprises the steps of: determining whether to encrypt the communication; and encrypting the communication, if it is determined that the communication is to be encrypted. Preferably, the Station-to-Station (STS) protocol is used to encrypt the data packets. | 06-02-2011

Integrated Circuit Device to Support Inductive Sensing - An integrated circuit device inductive touch analog front end (AFE) excites selected ones of a plurality of inductive touch sensors, measures voltages across the coils of the plurality of inductive touch sensors, and provides analog output signals representative of these coil voltages. A physical displacement (touch) to the inductive sensor causes the inductance value of the inductive touch sensor to change with a corresponding change in a voltage across the coil of the inductive touch sensor. A digital processor controls selection of each one of the plurality of inductive touch sensors and receives the respective analog output voltage signal from the inductive touch AFE. When a sufficient change in the coil voltage is determined by the digital processor, that inductive touch sensor is assumed to have been actuated and the digital processor takes action based upon which one of the plurality of inductive touch sensors was actuated (touched). | 04-15-2010
Programmable Integrated Circuit Device to Support Inductive Sensing - An integrated circuit device inductive touch analog front end excites selected ones of a plurality of inductive touch sensors and provides analog output signals representative of voltages across the coils of the plurality of inductive touch sensors. Various characteristics of the inductive touch analog front end are programmable. A digital processor controls selection of each one of the plurality of inductive touch sensors and receives the respective analog output voltage signal from the inductive touch AFE. The digital processor may program the characteristics of the inductive touch analog front end. When a sufficient change in the coil voltage is determined by the digital processor, that inductive touch sensor is assumed to have been actuated and the digital processor takes action based upon which one of the plurality of inductive touch sensors was actuated (touched). | 04-15-2010
CAPACITIVE TOUCH SYSTEM WITH NOISE IMMUNITY - Systems and methods for determining a user's touch in a capacitive touch sensor system is provided, including performing a series of potential touch detection tests for a plurality of sensors until a potential touch is detected and measuring a test frequency for one of the sensors, such that a potential touch may be detected when the measured test frequency deviates from a previously measured test frequency for the same sensor. After detecting a potential touch, the method may additionally include performing a series of baseline comparison tests for each of the sensors, for example, measuring a current frequency for one of the sensors, comparing the current frequency to a baseline frequency, and assigning a deviation value based on the comparison the current frequency and the baseline frequency. The method may identify the sensor with the largest deviation value as a touched sensor. | 01-13-2011

Process for recausticizing cyanide leach solutions - A method is shown for raising the pH of a cyanide leach solution of the type used in a heap leaching mining operation. Lime slurry is mixed with a side stream of barren cyanide solution in a reactor vessel in order to remove carbonate hardness, to regenerate the hydroxide alkalinity and to raise the pH of the resulting recausticized leach solution. A portion of the calcium carbonate precipitate formed in the reactor vessel is retained in order to encourage further crystal growth. Overflow from the reactor vessel passes through one or more cyclone separation stages in order to remove particulate solids. A cyclone overflow stream is directed back to the process to upwardly adjust the pH of the bulk of the barren cyanide solution. A cyclone underflow stream is directed back to the reactor vessel to provide seed crystal nuclei for precipitate growth. Periodically, precipitate grains are drained from the bottom of the reactor vessel, water-washed to recover cyanide solution, and discharged as carbonate sand and lime grit. | 12-25-2008
