20090124017 | Sampling Device and Method for the Rapid Detection of Proteins in Mold, Allergens or Other Protein-Containing Substances - Provided is sampling device and method for the detection of protein-containing substances. The sampling device includes a first reagent holder coupled to a second reagent holder by an activating member. Coupled to first reagent holder is a first reagent reservoir and coupled to second reagent holder is a second reagent reservoir. The first reagent reservoir is protected from the ambient environment by a first reagent protector and the second reagent reservoir is similarly protected from the ambient environment by a second reagent protector. After a sample has been obtained from the surface of a sampling object, the application of a sufficient activation force on the activating member places the first reagent reservoir in fluid communication with the second reagent reservoir. | 05-14-2009 |

20090075250 | Environmental Sampling and Testing Method - Provided is sampling and testing device for the detection of specific molds, allergens, viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other protein containing substances. Embodiments of the device include a sampling member slideably engaged with a base that contains a lateral flow strip adapted to detect specific analytes of interest. The sampling member defines a solvent reservoir that stores an elution solvent in a fluid-tight manner before the device is used to sample and test environmental surfaces. During slideable withdrawal of the sampling member from the base, the elution solvent stored in the reservoir is automatically released to a wick assembly of the sampling member. The wick assembly includes a wick adapted to receive, distribute, and retain the elution solvent. After a user samples an environmental surface for an analyte of interest with the elution solvent wetted wick, the sampling member is returned to the base where the wick contacts the lateral flow strip contained in the base. The wick transfers at least a portion of analyte and the elution solvent to the lateral flow strip for the calorimetric detection of specific allergens, viruses, bacteria, and other protein containing substances in the sample. The calorimetric results of the test are displayed through a window in the base. | 03-19-2009 |

20120255890 | Portable Water Filter - A portable water filter is disclosed. A portable water filter may filter water that enters through a first opening disposed toward a first end of the filter, where the water may pass through a filter element and exit the filter through a second opening disposed at or toward the first end of the filter. The first opening may be defined in a surface of the filter that is free of openings toward a second end of the filter. As such, when the filter is inserted into an opening or outlet of a bottle, more of the water in the bottle may be filtered and drained with reduced aeration as the first opening in the filter is disposed toward the opening or outlet in the bottle. The portable water filter may enable the flow of water through the filter element to be more uniform across the length of the filter element. | 10-11-2012 |
