20090068770TACTILE SURFACE INSPECTION DURING DEVICE FABRICATION OR ASSEMBLY - Processes for inspecting a surface during device fabrication include contacting the surface with a tactile sensor. The tactile sensor is an electroluminescent tactile sensor array or a current electrode sensor array or a capacitive sensor array. The sensor is configured to convert local stress resulting from contact with the surface into light intensity and/or modulation in local current density. Both the light intensity and current density are linearly proportional to the local stress. The image stress provided by the sensor can then be captured by focusing the light intensity onto a suitable detector to provide a topographical image of the surface. Current density can alternatively be directly sensed via high resolution electrode array.03-12-2009

20080310482Alternative direct sequence spread spectrum symbol to chip mappings and methods for generating the same - Alternative direct sequence spread spectrum symbol to chip mappings and methods for generating the same for use in a direct sequence spread spectrum wireless protocol and embedded in a transceiver chip used by wireless subsystems are provided. The present invention discloses alternative symbol to chip mappings that are orthogonal or nearly orthogonal to the N/2 unused chip sequences defined by a standard transmission protocol. The present invention is advantageous because it provides for an increased number of users and better reliability for wireless subsystems operating in increasingly overcrowded frequency bands. Other advantages of the present invention include a reduction in the negative effects of clear channel assessment including delayed or cancelled signal transmission and interference for wireless subsystems that transmit time-sensitive data.12-18-2008

20090052784Detection And Classification Of Matches Between Time-Based Media - A system and method detects matches between portions of video content. A matching module receives an input video fingerprint representing an input video and a set of reference fingerprints representing reference videos in a reference database. The matching module compares the reference fingerprints and input fingerprints to generate a list of candidate segments from the reference video set. Each candidate segment comprises a time-localized portion of a reference video that potentially matches the input video. A classifier is applied to each of the candidate segments to classify the segment as a matching segment or a non-matching segment. A result is then outputted identifying a matching portion of a reference video from the reference video set based on the segments classified as matches.02-26-2009
20100034466Object Identification in Images - A first indication of a portion of an image presented on a display device associated with a first user is received in response to a prompt to identify an object. A second indication of a portion of the image presented on a display device associated with a second user is received in response to a prompt to identify the object. A region-of-interest in the image is identified based on the first indication and the second indication. The region-of-interest is associated with an identifier of the object. A designator is associated with the region-of-interest in the image, the designator being configured to present information related to the object. Presentation of the designator associated with the region-of-interest in the image is enabled in subsequent presentations of the image.02-11-2010

20090097823VARIABLE RATE VIDEO PLAYBACK WITH SYNCHRONIZED AUDIO - The invention enables the apparent display rate of an audiovisual display to be varied. The invention can modify an original set of audio data in accordance with a target display rate, then modify a related original set of video data to conform to the modifications made to the audio data set, such that the modified audio and video data sets are synchronized. When the modified audio and video data sets so produced are used to generate an audiovisual display, the audiovisual display has an apparent display rate that approximates the target display rate. The target display rate can be faster or slower than a normal display rate at which an audiovisual display system generates an audiovisual display from the original sets of audio and video data. The target display rate can be established solely by a user instruction, by analysis of the audiovisual data, or by modification of a user-specified nominal target display rate based upon analysis of the audiovisual data. Preferably, the method for modifying the original audio data set is one that produces a modified audio data set that can be used to generate an audio display having little or no distortion.04-16-2009

20080219564Automatic selection of a visual image or images from a collection of visual images, based on an evaluation of the quality of the visual images - The invention automatically evaluates the quality of the visual images in a collection of visual images and selects one or more visual image(s) from the collection based on the evaluation of the quality of the visual images.09-11-2008
20090297115Identification of blank segments in a set of visual recording data - The invention identifies a blank segment (i.e., a segment that does not correspond to recorded visual content) in a set of visual recording data. The invention identifies a blank segment using a blank frame detector that is adapted to evaluate a frame of visual recording data to determine whether the frame of visual recording data is a blank frame, and a blank segment detector that is adapted to evaluate a characteristic of a group of frames of visual recording data to determine whether the group of frames of visual recording data is a blank segment comprising a plurality of blank frames. Identification of a blank segment can be used to, for example, decide whether to terminate digitization of a set of analog visual recording data.12-03-2009

20110055861SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SELECTIVE RECORDING OF INFORMATION - A system and method for selective recording of information uses sequential pattern matching of statistical vectors which characterize incoming time-based information to identify previously marked information within an incoming information stream. The system and method generate a signal to control a recording device to either elide the previously marked information from the recording, or to begin recording once the previously marked information is identified, depending upon the current mode of operation. The system and method may be utilized to omit recording of unwanted information, such as commercials in a television broadcast, or to automatically locate desired information on any of a number of available information channels without a priori knowledge of the occurrence time or channel of the information.03-03-2011
