NANOCLUSTER COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS - Compositions, methods of making, and methods of using nanoclusters in which the nanoclusters comprise a plurality of nanoparticles having a core of nanoparticles arranged such that the surfaces of the nanoparticles contact adjacent nanoparticles, the nanoparticles comprise an active ingredient, and the nanocluster has a mass median aerodynamic diameter of from about 0.25 μm to about 20 μm. | 09-15-2011
NANOPARTICLES, NANOCAPSULES AND NANOGELS - Acid-labile poly(N-vinyl formamide) (“PNVF”) nanocapsules were synthesized by free radical polymerization of N-vinyl formamide with optional active ingredients on the surface of silica nanoparticles. Polymerization in the presence of a novel cross-linker that contains an acid-labile ketal facilitated stable etching of silica nanoparticle templates using sodium hydroxide and recovery of PNVF nanocapsules. The formamido side group of PNVF was then hydrolyzed by extended exposure to sodium hydroxide to produce polyvinylamine (“PVAm”) nanocapsules. PNVF and PVAm nanoparticles are also synthesized that form nanogels with optional active ingredients. | 11-24-2011
NUCLEIC ACID DELIVERY COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS - Complexes comprising a cationic polymer, a nucleic acid and a metal ion are provided. In some embodiments, a complex may be used as a means for delivering nucleic acid to a cell. In some embodiments, a complex may be used as part of a gene therapy. Methods of making a complex comprising a cationic polymer, a nucleic acid, and a metal ion are also described. Methods of condensing a polyplex comprising a cationic polymer and a nucleic acid are also provided. | 11-24-2011

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARACTERIZATION WITH NON-UNIQUE SOLUTIONS OF ANISOTROPIC VELOCITIES - A system and method for characterizing structural uncertainty in a seismic analysis of features in a subsurface region includes obtaining seismic data including information representative of the features, performing a plurality of depth migrations on the seismic data, each depth migration being based on a model using a respective set of parameters relating to a velocity field and anisotropy of the subsurface region, selecting a family of equivalent solutions from the plurality of depth migrations, evaluating a characteristic of at least a portion of the subsurface region for each member of the family of equivalent solutions, determining a range of values of the evaluated parameters, and based on the determined range, determining a degree of uncertainty of the seismic analysis. | 04-26-2012

METHOD FOR LOW SIDELOBE OPERATION OF A PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA HAVING FAILED ANTENNA ELEMENTS - Described is a method of modifying an antenna pattern for a phased array antenna having at least one failed antenna element. A number of proximate beamformers in a proximate angular region about a beamformer at an angle of interest are determined. Each of the proximate beamformers has a proximate beamformer weight vector. A corrected beamformer weight vector is determined for the angle of interest as a linear combination of the proximate beamformer weight vectors. Each element of the corrected beamformer weight vector that corresponds to one of the failed antenna elements has a value of zero. The method enables computation of low spatial sidelobe antenna patterns without requiring a recalibration of the antenna thereby enabling uninterrupted operation of systems that employ phased array antennas. The method can also be used to control taper loss or sidelobe level for phased array antennas that have no failed antenna elements. | 10-06-2011
