20100011319Graphical user interface having contextual menus - A contextual pop-up menu of frequently used commands is displayed by an application whenever a user carries out a particular action. The contextual menu appears at the location of a cursor, so that the displayed commands are spatially very close to an item on which an action is to be performed. The commands which are displayed in the contextual menu are not limited to those provided by an application associated with the selected item. Other commands, such as system level commands, for help items or other types of user assistance features, can be added to the menu before it is displayed to the user. In addition, plug-in modules can be employed to provide other commands associated with the selected item.01-14-2010

20080250339EXTENSIBLE MASTER-SLAVE USER INTERFACE WITH DISTINCT INTERACTION MODELS - A method, computer system and computer readable medium regarding an extensible master-slave user interface with distinct interaction models is presented. A slave region is displayed in a Graphical User Interface (GUI), the slave region displaying a current state. A master region is displayed in the GUI, the master region displaying a previous state. When a user selects content in the slave region then the master region is removed from the GUI, a new master region is displayed in the GUI, the new master region containing a view of contents of the slave region, the slave region is removed from the GUI and the content selected by the user is displayed in a new slave region in the GUI.10-09-2008
20100138753APPLICATION MODIFICATION BASED ON FEED CONTENT - A data format provides a mechanism to dynamically change the appearance of an application. During operation, the application obtains streaming feed data for presentation to a user. The feed data may be formatted according to a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) data format. The application detects, within the feed data, branding extensions that identify branding content to be displayed concurrently with channel data and content items when a user selects a channel defined by the feed data. The application detects a user selection of the channel defined by the feed data, and in response, references the branding extensions to obtain and display the branding content within a display region of the application that is separate from the content presentation region of the application for display of content items defined within the feed data.06-03-2010

20100032559VARIABLE ENERGY PHOTOIONIZATION DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MASS SPECTROMETRY - A mass spectrometer using a variable energy photoionization device for ionizing and/or cleaving molecules is disclosed. The device permits ionizing photon wavelengths to be selected from a range of wavelengths allowing the ionizing photon energies to be tuned so as to ionize molecules without excessive fragmentation or to cleave molecules in a controlled manner by breaking only certain molecular bonds. Selection of the wavelengths is afforded by the choice of a plasma-forming gas combined with windowlessly radiating the ionizing photons from a plasma chamber. A method of mass spectrometry featuring selected ionizing photon wavelengths is also disclosed.02-11-2010

20110109226MICROPLASMA DEVICE WITH CAVITY FOR VACUUM ULTRAVIOLET IRRADIATION OF GASES AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME - An illumination device provides light to a flowing gaseous sample. The device includes a structure including a cavity configured to have a microplasma disposed therein. The cavity substantially encircles a cross-section of a channel that is configured to pass the flowing gaseous sample therethrough. The cavity is defined in part by an interior wall of the structure separating the cavity from the channel. The interior wall includes at least one orifice passing therethrough configured to provide to the flowing gaseous sample light generated by the microplasma. At least one electrode is configured to supply energy to the microplasma within the cavity.05-12-2011

20080255819High-accuracy virtual sensors for computer systems - Embodiments of the present invention provide a system that estimates the value of a virtual sensor. The system first samples values for performance metrics using external sensors that are coupled to a system and internal sensors that are built into the system. Next, the system generates an inferential sensing model for the system from the sampled values. Then, during operation, the system samples values of performance metrics using the internal sensors and uses the inferential sensing model and the sampled values from the internal sensors to estimate the values of performance metrics for removed external sensors (i.e., virtual sensors).10-16-2008

20100005093KNOWLEDGE FILTER - A method and system for sharing knowledge is disclosed. The method and system comprises receiving information input into a database and organizing items of information in the database. The method and system further includes collecting ratings and comments associated with each item of information and allowing users to access and sort items of information according to selected rating criteria in order to find the most reliable and/or valuable information from the database. In a second aspect, the present invention including an interface for providing information concerning a subject is disclosed. The interface comprises a first area that shows the subject and contributor name; and a second area that shows the content of the information item. The interface includes a third area that shows rating related to the subject; and a fourth area that allows users to submit ratings for the information item. Accordingly, a knowledge sharing system and interface are provided which allows every member of a knowledge sharing group to benefit from aggregate knowledge, experience and opinions of other members of the group. The system and method allows individual members to easily locate the information from a collectively generated knowledge base that is most consistent with that individual's personal measures of value in the information.01-07-2010

20100017889Control of Website Usage Via Online Storage of Restricted Authentication Credentials - A client communicates with a website usage server via a network to gain access to an account on a website. The client requests an indication of whether user access to the account on the website is permitted. The website usage server determines whether website usage is permitted based at least in part on a website usage policy associated with the website and the user. The website usage server provides restricted authentication credentials to the website responsive to determining that access to the account is permitted.01-21-2010
