20120180301One-Hit Tooling for Flush Mounted Rotatable Captive Nut - A two-stage punch accomplishes the two-step process of sheet deformation and nut flaring to attach the nut to the sheet in a single stroke of an assembly press. The punch comprises an outer cylindrical sleeve which captivates a resiliently biased center punch. When the punch is moved downward into contact with the sheet, an embossing ring on the sleeve deforms the sheet material around an aperture in the sheet. When the punch is moved farther downward, a pointed end of the center punch extends beyond the embossing ring and into forcible contact with the nut. The nut is thereby flared capturing the sheet between flared edges of the nut and a nut flange.07-19-2012

20110114856ALL-OPTICAL CONTROL OF THZ RADIATION IN PARALLEL PLATE WAVEGUIDES - The invention relates to control of THz radiation in parallel plate waveguides (PPWG) by forming components in the waveguide by use of optical radiation pulses. Patterns of excited regions induced in the PPWG by an optical excitation pulses changes the electromagnetic properties of the waveguide medium in the THz regime, thereby forming transient passive and active components for controlling THz radiation signals. The excitation can be generation of free charge carriers in a semiconductor material in the PPWG, to create metallic regions that form mirrors, lenses or photonic crystal structures in the PPWG. The photo-induced pattern can be modulated in time in response to an incoming signal, to frequency-, phase- or amplitude-modulate the THz signal. The systems can be integrated on chip-scale components and can be applied in e.g. THz communication, digital computing, sensors, and lab-on-a-chip applications. The optical and THz radiation can be ultrashort pulses with picosecond or femtosecond pulse durations.05-19-2011

20120144566HELMET AND VISOR LOCKING MECHANISM - A visor locking assembly alone or in combination with a helmet shell and visor. The visor locking assembly is attached to said shell and is used to mount the visor in a manner that allows the visor to be locked in a desired position. The visor locking assembly is configured to prevent the visor from being moved from a fully lowered position to a raised position unless the visor is displaced laterally forward away from the face of the wearer of the helmet. The locking assembly further comprises a body and a rotatable hub, wherein the body comprises a cavity, and wherein the cavity further comprises a protrusion on the wall of the cavity, and wherein the rotatable hub comprises a recess formed along the circumference of the hub. The hub is positioned to rotate within the cavity, and the hub is prevented from rotational movement when the protrusion is positioned within (engaged with) the recess. When the hub is displaced laterally within the cavity away from the protrusion, the hub becomes rotatable. A spring is attached to the hub inhibiting said displacement. The system may comprise a single visor locking assembly or two visor locking assemblies on a helmet. If two assemblies are utilized, the visor cannot be raised from a fully lowered position unless both assemblies are unlocked.06-14-2012

20080205503Adaptive equalizer with tap coefficient averaging - In one embodiment, a receiver has an equalizer, a tap-averaging block, a delay buffer, and a filter. The equalizer receives an input signal from upstream processing and generates sets of filter coefficients. Each set of filter coefficients is adaptively generated by 1) filtering the received signal to generate an equalized signal, 2) calculating an error of the equalized signal, and 3) generating a new set of coefficients based on the error of the equalized signal. The sets of filter coefficients are output to the tap-averaging block, which averages groups of the sets of filter coefficients to generate sets of averaged filter coefficients, where each averaged set is output to the filter. The filter receives a time-delayed version of the input signal from the delay buffer and applies the current set of averaged filter coefficients to the time-delayed signal. The filtered signal is then output to downstream processing.08-28-2008
