20110275533Micro-RNAs as Markers for Tumor Progression - Disclosed are methods for diagnosing cancer or dysplasia in a sample of tissue, involving testing cells of the sample to assess whether miR-196a expression in cells of the sample is greater than a reference, wherein a greater expression of miR-196a in cells of the sample compared to the reference is indicative of cancer or dysplasia. The cancer or dysplasia may be esophageal cancer or esophageal dysplasia. Also disclosed are method for diagnosing cancer or dysplasia in a sample of tissue, comprising testing cells of the sample to assess whether the expression of ANXA1, KRT5, SPRR2C, or S100A9 in cells of the sample is reduced compared to a reference control, wherein said reduced expression in cells of the sample compared to the reference control is indicative of cancer or dysplasia. Also disclosed are kits and methods involving kits for the diagnosis of cancer or dysplasia.11-10-2011

20110014647System and Method for Analyzing Samples Labeled with 5, 10, 15, 20 Tetrakis (4-Carboxyphenyl) Porphine (TCPP) - One embodiment of the present invention provides for a method of determining if a sputum sample contains dysplastic or carcinomic cells by obtaining a sputum sample containing cells. The sputum sample is labeled with TCPP to stain cells suspected to be dysplastic or carcinomic. The labeled sputum sample is excited with an excitation wavelength of light of about 475 nm+/−30 nm and emission at about 560 nm+/−30 nm is detected from cells identified to be macrophages. An imager focuses on the plasma membrane of one or more cells suspected to be dysplastic or carcinomic and emission at about 655 nm+/−30 nm, if present, is detected for TCPP labeled cells of the sputum sample after focusing on the plasma membrane of the cells of the sputum sample. Photon flux for each pixel of a sensor is measured to obtain a value for the imaged cell. The measured value is scored to determine if a cell is cancerous or dysplastic.01-20-2011

20100219936APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING A NAME CORRESPONDING TO A FACE OR VOICE USING A DATABASE - The basic invention uses biometric signals to help identify the name of a family member, acquaintance or newly met individual. The biometric signals include facial and voice recognition. In addition, the invention can interactively produce the name of an individual met for the first time just after that individual shakes your hand and introduces themselves. Most people forget this name since they are concentrating on maintaining a conversation. An earphone plug can physically connect the handheld unit to the ear canal of the user and the identity of the individual is electronically passed over the wire to the user. A handheld unit identifies the individual and whispers their name into the ear canal. An earphone is physically connected to the handheld unit via a wire. This allows the identity of the individual to be electronically passed over the wire to the user. By touching the portable unit which is inserted into the ear canal, the name is whispered into the canal. All these identification procedures can be used to help eliminate an embarrassing moment which may occur if the user is unable to recall an individual's name.09-02-2010
20110200093METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING VIDEO AND VIDEO LINKS - One of the standards addressed in this specification is the MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group) Standard. MPEG is a group that sets standards for the compression and the transmission of audio and video information. This standard has found many applications; streaming video, interactive graphics, interactive multimedia, video applications for the web, DVD (Digital Versatile Disc), digital videophone and television broadcasting. YouTube uses MPEG to display video results. Several techniques are described which allow for searching, viewing, and hearing of scaled videos thereby providing an increased video content that offers several advantages over existing systems.08-18-2011
20110222729APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FINDING A MISPLACED OBJECT USING A DATABASE AND INSTRUCTIONS GENERATED BY A PORTABLE DEVICE - The basic invention uses a portable device that can contain a camera, a database, and a text, voice or visual entry to control the storage of an image into a database. Furthermore, the stored image can be associated with text, color, visual or audio. The stored images can be used to guide the user towards a target that the user does not recall its current location. The user's commands can be issued verbally, textually or by scrolling through the target images in the database until the desired one is found. This target can be shoes, pink sneakers, a toy or some comparable items that the user needs to find.09-15-2011

20100236152Sliding pocket door system - A pocket door system with a constant rail system provides a pocket door adapted for sliding into and out of an enclosed wall pocket to enable or prevent egress through a framed door opening. The pocket door includes a roller mechanism mounted at a top surface and a slotted lower guide mechanism mounted at a bottom surface. A floor track with a vertically extending, flat, planar protruding plate element is mounted upon a floor surface is secluded within the enclosed wall pocket. The vertically extending, flat, planar protruding plate element is insertable into the corresponding vertically extending flat, planar slot of the guide mechanism. The roller mechanism of the pocket door system engages an upper track as the lower guide mechanism engages with the protruding element guide wherein the pocket door slides into and out of the enclosed wall pocket without wobbling and dislocating from the tracks during use.09-23-2010
