20120061323LIGHT WEIGHT ORIENTED NET ASSEMBLY FOR OIL CAPTURE AND CONTAINMENT - A light weight oriented net or netting assembly is provided for oil capture and containment. The netting assembly is made by biaxially stretching or orienting starting materials to form a pattern of oriented strands and integral junctions that, while being light in weight, is also strong enough to be used to capture and remove oil from contaminated water without an outer stabilizing jacket. The assembly is preferably made from oriented polypropylene netting that is folded, gathered, bunched and/or otherwise layered upon itself on the order of 16-64 times and then crimped in one or more locations to secure the netting layers in a bow tie or tubular configuration that forms net cavities and an open cell structure to capture and contain oil that has been dispersed in water. Oil in the netting assembly can then be removed, such as by pressing or other removal process, after which the netting assembly may be reused.03-15-2012

20090034792REDUCING LATENCY IN A DETECTION SYSTEM - A first multi-dimensional digital image of a scan region is generated. The scan region is included in a materials-detection apparatus and is configured to receive and move containers through the materials-detection apparatus. A pre-defined background range of values is accessed, the background range of values representing a range of values associated with non-target materials and the background range of values being distinct from values associated with the target materials. A value of a voxel included in the multi-dimensional digital image is compared to the background range of values to determine whether the value of the voxel is within the background range of values. If the value of the voxel is within the background range of values, the voxel is identified as a voxel representing a low-density material. A second multi-dimensional digital image that disregards the identified voxel is generated to compress the first multi-dimensional digital image.02-05-2009

20080198967High throughput baggage inspection system - A stand-alone inspection system operating reliably with high throughput. The system employs automated image analysis to distinguish between cleared items and suspicious items. Cleared items pass through the inspection system without stopping, but the system stops suspicious items at a predetermined location so that the alarmed items can be readily identified by an operator. The system also displays information on the items that allows an operator to confirm that the item in the predetermined location is an alarmed item. Rather than resolving the alarmed item with the system stopped, the operator records an indicia of the alarmed item and the alarmed item is removed for further inspection or other processing. The recorded indicia provides a tracking mechanism that ensures alarmed bags are resolved.08-21-2008

20090037958METHOD AND APPARATUS TO PROVIDE A PERSONALIZED CHANNEL - A method and apparatus for automatically delivering data files (e.g. television and movies) via a personalized channel to a user, that are based on a user's profile and viewing habits, are provided. A client receives meta-data broadcasts from a server system that includes descriptions of a plurality of data files currently being broadcasted or to be broadcast by the server system. In response to a content rating table that is based on a user's profile and viewing habits, a data file is automatically selected. The selected data file is displayed on a personalized channel on a display device to the user. The selected data file can be, for example, a currently broadcasting data file or a data file stored in a cache memory of the client. Thus, the user only needs to tune to his or her personalized channel to view personalized content.02-05-2009
20110093475METHOD AND APPARATUS TO DETERMINE BROADCAST CONTENT AND SCHEDULING IN A BROADCAST SYSTEM - A broadcast system, method and apparatus providing content on demand. In one embodiment, the disclosed broadcast system includes a server that broadcasts meta-data to a plurality of clients. The meta-data describes a plurality of data files that are to be broadcast or potentially broadcast later by the server. Each client receives the broadcasted meta-data from the server and updates and maintains a local meta-data table and a content rating table. Based on the meta-data, previous access habits of the user and optional user classifications, the client system selectively receives and/or stores the data files that are later broadcast by the server. In one embodiment, the client systems transmit back to the server ratings of each one of the data files described by the meta-data based on the user's previously accessed data files and optional user classifications. The server then determines the data files to be broadcast and the broadcast schedule based on the ratings received from the clients.04-21-2011
