20100035607SEAMLESS TRANSITIONING OF AIR-TO-GROUND TRAFFIC - An apparatus and a method may be provided by which a user aboard an aircraft may use a processing device to communicate with another device, which is not located aboard the aircraft, via an air-to-ground network connection. A communication satellite may provide connectivity for the air-to-ground network connection. As the aircraft approaches an end of a satellite coverage area, the air-to-ground network connection may seamlessly transition to a second communication satellite or a second communication medium. Some communication satellites may communicate via a first frequency range and other communication satellites may communicate via a second frequency range. In one mode of operation, the air-to-ground network connection may be via a communication satellite communicating via a first frequency range. A transition to a communication medium communicating via a second frequency range may occur automatically only during the one mode of operation.02-11-2010

20080291799Laser Power Calibration in an Optical Disc Drive - Various systems, methods, and programs embodied on a computer-readable medium are provided for calibrating a laser power in an optical disc drive. In one embodiment, a range of reflectivity of an optical disc in the optical disc drive is established. A calibration pattern of marked segments is written to the optical disc and the reflectivity of the marked segments is measured. An average reflectivity is generated for each one of a plurality of laser power settings within the range of reflectivity, thereby obtaining a curve that depicts the average reflectivity with respect to the laser power settings. The laser power setting at a knee of the curve is identified and a slope of the curve at a position on the curve where the average reflectivity decreases as the laser power settings increase is determined. The laser power setting is calculated that results in a predefined darkness based upon the laser power setting at the knee and based upon the slope.11-27-2008

20090053890SELECTIVE THIN METAL CAP PROCESS - A method of creating metal caps on copper lines within an inter-line dielectric (ILD) deposits a thin (e.g., 5 nm) metal blanket film (e.g., Ta/TaN) on top the copper lines and dielectric, after the wafer has been planarized. Further a thin dielectric cap is formed over the metal blanket film. A photoresist coating is deposited over the thin dielectric cap and a lithographic exposure process is performed, but without a lithographic mask. A mask is not needed in this situation, because due to the reflectivity difference between copper and the ILD lying under the two thin layers, a mask pattern is automatically formed for etching away the Ta/TaN metal cap between copper lines. Thus, this mask pattern is self-aligned above the copper lines.02-26-2009
