In one exemplary embodiment, state information of a live event may be received in real time. The live event may comprise a sporting event played by human players according to predetermined rules that are used to determine at least one winner of the sporting event. An initial state and a plurality of possible future states of a performance parameter of the live event may be determined based on the state information. A first betting market for betting on at least one of the plurality of possible future states may be created. The act of creating a first betting market may comprise (1) determining by the processor probabilities for the plurality of possible future states, and (2) based at least in part on the probabilities, determining by the processor odds for betting on at least one of the plurality of possible future states. After creating the first betting market, a first bet comprising a selection of one of the plurality of possible future states may be received from a first of a plurality of users. After receiving the first bet, the first betting market may be closed prior to an end time of the initial state. An instruction signal to close the first betting market may be transmitted from the processor. An actual future state of the performance parameter may be determined. The processor may determine that the possible future state selected by the first user is the actual future state. A payout may be paid to the first user based on the first bet and the act of determining that the possible future state selected by the first user is the actual future state. The sporting event may occur during an event time duration such that the sporting event begins at the beginning of the event time duration and ends at the end of the event time duration. The sporting event may comprise a plurality of portions of the event occurring during sequential portions of the event time duration, in which a plurality of possible future states comprises a possible future state occurring at the end of one of the sequential time periods, and in which at least one betting market is created for each of the sequential time periods.06-24-2010

20100083255NOTIFICATION BATCHING BASED ON USER STATE - Batching messages such as notifications intended for a user to preserve battery life on a computing device associated with the user. A server such as a proxy server receives the messages from one or more service providers. The proxy server maintains a state of the user. If the state indicates that the user is idle, the messages are stored at the proxy server unless the messages correspond to activating messages. The activating messages are sent to the user upon receipt. The stored messages are sent when the state changes to an active state or when a defined duration of time elapses. In some embodiments, the messages are presence notifications in an instant messaging session on a mobile computing device. By reducing the frequency of sent notifications, the battery life of the mobile computing device is preserved.04-01-2010
20110197059SECURING OUT-OF-BAND MESSAGES - Securing an out-of-band message from a server to a mobile computing device. After requesting a service ticket from a trusted third party (e.g., via a pre-existing ticketing infrastructure), the requested service ticket and a shared secret are obtained from the trusted third party via a first channel. The mobile computing device thereafter sends the service ticket with the shared secret to a server via a second channel. The server encrypts a message (e.g., an SMS message) using the shared secret. The mobile computing device receives the encrypted message from the server via a third channel that is out-of-band relative to the first channel. The encrypted message is decrypted via the shared secret and the decrypted message is provided to a user of the mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the message includes commands for controlling the mobile computing device.08-11-2011

20110297379Slickline Run Hydraulic Motor Driven Tubing Cutter - A tubing cutter is run in with a bottom hole assembly that includes a seal and support within the tubing to be cut. A ported sub allows pressurized fluid pumped from the surface to enter the bottom hole assembly above the sealed support location and to be directed to set an anchor and to a fluid driven motor such as a progressive cavity motor that is in turn connected to the tubing cutter at the rotor of the progressive cavity motor. The rotation of the cutter with its blades extended cuts the tubular as the fluid exiting the stator goes to the lower end of the tubing being cut and can return to the surface through an annulus around the tubing to be cut. Other configurations such as cutting casing or cutting casing through tubing are also envisioned.12-08-2011
