20110097472DAIRY PROTEIN GEL - A method for preparing a protein gel is provided. It comprises providing a daily starting material comprising casein; adjusting the pH, if required, to a pre-selected point in the range 5.0-8.0; subjecting the material with the pre-selected pH to a cooking step; adjusting the pH of the cooked product to 3.8-7.5, preferably 4.5-7.5; processing and/or packing the pH 3.8-7.5, preferably pH 4.5-7.5 product to form the final product or ingredient wherein at least 10% of the casein of the dairy starting material comprises alphas enriched casein having an alphas to beta casein weight ratio of greater than 1.25:1 or alphas depleted casein having an alphas to beta casein weight ratio of less than 0.8:1. The invention also provides an ingredient for use in the method.04-28-2011

20090028700APPLIANCE PUMP - A pump for washing appliance is described. The pump has a pump casing in which an impeller is located. The pump casing has an inlet and outlet, and an inlet conduit extending from the inlet at a small angle above the horizontal. The ceiling includes a downwardly extending dividing wall section extending radially from a central location to a side wall of the casing. The dividing wall is positioned between the inlet outlet. The ceiling incorporates a ramped surface rising around the central location, between the outlet side and the inlet side of the dividing wall. The ramped surface is higher adjacent the inlet side than the outlet side of the dividing wall section so that when the impeller is not rotating, air inside the pump chamber will rise up the ramped surface through the inlet and up the inlet conduit.01-29-2009

20110064854Process for Making a Healthy Snack Food - The present invention is directed towards a method for making a healthy snack food having an appearance and taste similar to conventional fried snack products without the use of an oil-frying process. The method of the present invention includes the steps of providing food slices from a starch-based food or dough. The food slices can be blanched and a controlled amount of oil can be added to enhance final organoleptical properties. The food slices are then rapidly dehydrated to a much lower moisture content in a primary drying step that simulates conventional frying dehydration rates. A food snack, such as a corn or potato-based snack, produced by this method is a low-fat, ready-to-eat snack having the conventional texture and taste associated with fried snack products.03-17-2011

20100167409SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION OF ALFATOXINS - Polymers suitable for binding aflatoxins for use for in solid phase extraction of aflatoxins and immobilisation of aflatoxins in solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges for qualitative or quantitative analysis of aflatoxins in solutions extracted from foodstuffs or feedstuffs are prepared from allylamine; methylene bisacrylamide (MBAA); acrylamide, ethyleneglycol-methacrylate phosphate (EGMP); 4-vinyl pyridine; or 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane-sulfonic acid (AMPSA) monomers. Preferred embodiments are polymers containing acrylamide moieties such as acrylamide and MBAA. The polymers are preferably cross-linked, for example using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) or divinyl benzene (DVB), and macroporous.07-01-2010

20100151583SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION OF OCHRATOXINS - Polymers capable of binding ochratoxins are disclosed. The polymers may be used for solid phase extraction of ochratoxins and immobilisation of ochratoxins in solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges, for qualitative or quantitative analysis of ochratoxins in liquid extracts from foodstuffs or animal feeds. The polymers may be prepared from monomers containing amido or amino-alkyl moieties and acid moieties. Preferred embodiments are polymers prepared from 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane-sulfonic acid (AMPSA) and from a mixture of diethyl aminoethyl methacrylate (DEAEM) and itaconic acid (IA). The polymers are preferably cross-linked, for example using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) or divinyl benzene (DVB), and made macroporous by polymerisation in the presence of a porogen solvent such as dimethyl formamide (DMF).06-17-2010
