20090213815Contention protocols for wireless medium access in communication networks - Wireless medium access in a communication network having a number of terminals is controlled by defining protocol message units for transmission by a given terminal which units correspond to operational states of at least one of the terminal and the medium. A number of time slots are allocated for transmission of packets from each terminal, and a number of contention opportunities are defined at the beginning of each time slot. Priority and backoff mechanisms are defined and applied at each terminal during the contention opportunities in the slots. Packets are then transmitted by the terminal within the slots while (1) minimizing the occurrence of empty slots at times when packets are available for transmission, and (2) minimizing the number of slots during which two or more packets are detected on the medium simultaneously at the terminal.08-27-2009

20090141653Enhancement of node connectivity in a wireless communications network with changing topology via adaptive role changing - A process and system for enhancing connectivity among nodes of a wireless communications network by adapting to changes in the network topology. Nodes of the network are configured to operate according to either (i) an ad hoc protocol wherein a given node assumes a role of a mesh node capable of connecting with other like-configured nodes, or (ii) a point-to-multipoint protocol wherein the given node assumes a role of a either base station, or a subscriber station being served by another node which is assuming the role of a base station. A determination is made as to whether each node should operate according to the ad hoc protocol or the point-to-multipoint protocol, in order to maintain an optimum state of connectivity among all nodes of the network. The determined operating protocol is then implemented for each node.06-04-2009

20100170868SPIN-ON SPACER MATERIALS FOR DOUBLE- AND TRIPLE-PATTERNING LITHOGRAPHY - Novel double- and triple-patterning methods are provided. The methods involve applying a shrinkable composition to a patterned template structure (e.g., a structure having lines) and heating the composition. The shrinkable composition is selected to possess properties that will cause it to shrink during heating, thus forming a conformal layer over the patterned template structure. The layer is then etched to leave behind pre-spacer structures, which comprise the features from the pattern with remnants of the shrinkable composition adjacent the feature sidewalls. The features are removed, leaving behind a doubled pattern. In an alternative embodiment, an extra etch step can be carried out prior to formation of the features on the template structure, thus allowing the pattern to be tripled rather than doubled.07-08-2010

20100191298APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR THE EXTRAMEDULLARY LOCATION OF THE MECHANICAL AXIS OF A FEMUR - A surgical instrument and method determine the orientation of the mechanical axis of a femur. The instrument may include a rod with a first end of the rod rotatably secured at a first point on the surface of distal femur that corresponds to center of the knee joint so that the first end is coincident with the mechanical axis. The connection between the first end of the rod and the distal end of the femur defines a first point of rotation. The second end of the rod is slideably received within a sleeve that is rotatably connected to a support positioned distally away from the distal end of the femur. The connection between the sleeve and the support defines a second point of rotation. When the distance between the first and second points of rotation is minimized, a line drawn therebetween is coincident with the mechanical axis of the femur.07-29-2010

20090006477Information Management System, Display System, Management Apparatus And Program - Only the display device stores content files and a management device stores file management information. The content files are managed using the file management information. Because the management device does not store the actual content files, the security policy of an organization is not violated even if the management device is located outside the organization. Furthermore, because the display device stores the content files, the user desire to keep content files locally at hand is satisfied. Furthermore, because file management information consisting of small amounts of data is exchanged between the display system and the management device, the communication environment of the system does not need to be suitable to large data transmissions. Furthermore, because the management device stores the file management information, the storage capacity required by the management device is small.01-01-2009
