20080296915MAGNETIC LATCH - A magnetic self-latching device for a gate has a main body with handles on either side for operation or has an arrangement to be remotely actuated, for example electrically. A latching body has a high strength magnet usually provided at the bottom of a cavity which defines a latching shoulder. The latching body is adapted to be fixed to a gate post. The main body, with its housing, can be mounted on the gate frame and incorporates a latch pin which, in the door-closed position, is displaced by magnetic attraction to an extended latching position and against the biasing of a return spring. The gate cannot be opened until actuation of the mechanism occurs, for example by rotating a handle to retract the pin against the magnetic force; the gate can then be swung open. When the handle is released, the biasing spring retains the latch pin in a retracted position. A lost motion arrangement is provided so that there is substantially no load on the pin when the handles are released and the pin is supported in the retracted position by the return spring. A carriage and an associated actuator or a flexible/semi flexible line connection is provided in the housing for incorporating the lost motion arrangement.12-04-2008
20100033279MAGNETIC SAFETY LATCH - A magnetic latch for a gate has first and second units for mounting on a gate and a gate post respectively. The first unit has a displaceable latch element displaceably mounted in a support in a housing and biased to a retracted position, and a second unit with a complementary engagement structure with which a latching portion of the latch element is adapted to engage when the magnetic latch is in a latching position and the latch element is displaced to a projecting position. A magnetic attracting arrangement is provided to cause the latch element to move to the projecting position and engage in the engagement structure when the magnetic latch is in the latching position, and then the engagement structure prevents movement of the door or gate away from the closed position. A retraction element is provided in the first unit for displacing the support and increasing the bias on the latch element to exceed the force of the magnetic attracting arrangement, whereby the latch element moves towards the retracted position and the gate may be moved from the closed position.02-11-2010

20090025285BRIQUETTING PROCESS - A process and system is provided for briquetting particulate matter such as moisture-containing bituminous and sub-bituminous coal. This process includes partially drying the particulate matter and feeding, the partially dried particulate matter to a briquetting apparatus under conditions such that water vapor is released from the particulate matter during feeding. The particulate matter is passed through briquette forming rollers to form briquettes. The released water vapor substantially displaces or prevents the ingress of a large proportion of other gaseous components from the atmosphere surrounding an/or intermixed with the particulate matter. The particulate matter that is fed to the briquetting apparatus is surrounded by and intermixed with a gaseous component containing 70% to 100% by volume of water vapor at the point where it enters the briquette-forming part of the briquetting apparatus, such that when the particulate matter is compressed during briquette formation, the water vapor liquefies and the pressure buildup of gaseous material in the thus-formed briquettes is minimised. This reduction in the pressure buildup of gaseous components also acts to reduce blow-back of gases as the coal fines are being formed into briquettes.01-29-2009

20080235415Method and System for Modeling a Bus for a System Design Incorporating One or More Programmable Processors - Systems and methods for modeling a bus for a system design are provided. In an embodiment, the method operates by accepting a virtual bus model, wherein the model simulates behavior for a bus master and slave device, such that the model accurately simulates the timing and behavior of the transfer of data from master to slave, and, from slave to master devices. The method routes a transaction issued by the master device to the slave device. The transaction has storage for transaction data, or a pointer to transaction data, to be transferred through the transaction. The transaction data is transferred in one or more data payloads and the sender of data sets the length of data payloads to be returned. The data payloads are sent from the sender of data to the receiver of data and may contain one or more bus data beats. This method accurately models the bus timing and behavior of the delivery of one or more data beats as one data payload.09-25-2008

20080297230Interfacing at low temperature using CMOS technology - This invention concerns interfacing to electronic circuits or systems operating at low temperature or ultra-low temperature using complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Low temperature in this case refers to cryogenic temperatures in particular, but not exclusively, to the 4.2 K region. Ultra-low temperatures here refers to the sub-1 K range, usually accessed using dilution refrigerator systems. The electronic circuits comprise a controller (for writing and manipulation), an observer (for readout and measurement) circuits, or both, fabricated from ultra-thin silicon-on-insulator (SOI) CMOS technology.12-04-2008
20110121895CONTROL AND READOUT OF ELECTRON OR HOLE SPIN - This invention concerns an electronic device for the control and readout of the electron or hole spin of a single dopant in silicon. The device comprises a silicon substrate in which there are one or more ohmic contact regions. An insulating region on top of the substrate. First and second barrier gates spaced apart to isolate a small region of charges to form an island of a Single Electron Transistor (SET). A third gate over-lying both the first and second barrier gates, but insulated from them, the third gate being able to generate a gate-induced charge layer (GICL) in the ESR line substrate beneath it. A fourth gate in close proximity to a single dopant donor gate atom, the dopant atom being encapsulated in the substrate outside the region of the GICL but close enough to allow spin-dependent charge tunnelling between the dopant atom and the SET island under the control of gate potentials, mainly the fourth gate. In use either the third or fourth gate also serve as an Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) line to control the spin of the single electron or hole of the dopant atom. In a further aspect it concerns a method for using the device.05-26-2011
