20080237096Methods for determining pith direction and location in lumber - Methods are provided for determining a location of a pith along a length of a wood sample. The methods may comprise the steps of: determining pith direction; selecting two areas of the wood sample at which two or more chords of a ring can be defined; bisecting the chords to define a line perpendicular to the chords; and locating at least one intersection point for two or more of the bisecting perpendicular lines.10-02-2008
20080246971Methods For Using Light Reflection Patterns To Determine Diving Angle Of Grain - Methods are provided for using light reflection patterns to determine various properties of fibrous materials, such as wood. More specifically, the present invention relates to methods for determining a dive angle for grain. Further, the present invention relates to methods for using information in T2 plots, combined with knowledge of the microstructure of a wood sample surface, to find pith location and/or ring curvature.10-09-2008
20080283151Warp Stable Wood Product And Methods For Detecting The Same - A warp stable wood product and methods for detecting the same are provided. The wood product may be sorted based on its morphology, microstructure, macrostructure, and/or chemical composition properties being substantially symmetric relative to at least one or more cross-sectional centroids of the wood product, thereby imparting warp stability.11-20-2008
20100158309DETERMINING WOOD CHARACTERISTICS USING ANNUAL RING IMAGES FROM LUMBER FACES - Methods are described for predicting the percentage of latewood and specific gravity of lumber independent of moisture content using image analysis of the lumber surfaces.06-24-2010
20100230310Warp Stable Wood Product Package and Methods for Sorting a Wood Product - The present disclosure includes a wood product package comprising a plurality of wood products having a performance attribute. The performance attribute of the wood products is certified in statistical terms based on a degree to at which at least one of a morphology, microstructure, macrostructure or chemical composition property remains substantially symmetrical about a cross-sectional centroid of each of the wood products. Each of the plurality of wood products have a cross-sectional centroid. The plurality of wood products each have a property that is substantially symmetrical about the cross-sectional centroids. The property is related to morphology, microstructure, macrostructure, and chemical composition. Further aspects of the disclosure are directed towards methods for sorting wood products.09-16-2010
20100332438Methods for Predicting Warp of a Wood Product Produced from a Log - The present disclosure relates to methods for predicting warp of a wood product produced from a log. Some embodiments include performing a three dimensional scan of the log to obtain geometric data, using the geometric data to construct a log profile, partitioning the geometric data into geometric components, removing one or more selected geometric components to create one or more residual grid profiles, deriving geometric statistics from the one or more residual grid profiles or from the log profile, and entering the geometric statistics into a model for predicting warp of the wood product. The geometric statistics may include orientation dependent and orientation independent statistics.12-30-2010

20090068515Fuel Supplying and Controlling Method and Fuel Cell Apparatus Using the Same - A fuel supplying and controlling method and a fuel cell apparatus are provided in the present invention, in which a fuel sensor-less control method and a fuel concentration sensor are combined together to stabilize the operation of the fuel cell apparatus. In one embodiment of the present invention, an optimum range of fuel concentration is determined using the fuel sensor-less control method and then whether the fuel cell apparatus operates within the optimum range of fuel concentration or not is monitored using the fuel concentration sensor as a first line of defense, while the fuel sensor-less control method is used as a secondary line of defense for monitoring. In another embodiment of the present invention, the fuel sensor-less control method is used as a first line of defense for monitoring whether the fuel cell apparatus operates within the optimum range of fuel concentration or not and determining an optimum range of fuel concentration, while whether the fuel concentration exceeds the optimum range of fuel concentration is monitored using the fuel concentration sensor as a second line of defense for monitoring the fuel concentration.03-12-2009
20090261657METHOD AND SYSTEM OF HYBRID POWER MANAGEMENT - A method of hybrid power management is provided in the present invention, comprising steps of: providing a hybrid power output device being coupled to a load and comprising a fuel cell module and a secondary cell module; determining a plurality of threshold values, each representing one of output power modes of the hybrid power output device respectively; and monitoring a characteristic value output from the fuel cell module and comparing the characteristic value with the threshold values to determine one of the output power modes to supply power to the load. Moreover, the present invention further provides a system of hybrid power management using the foregoing method to control switches to select from the output power modes such as supplying power from the fuel cell module only, from both the fuel cell module and the secondary battery, or cutting off power supply to the load according to the power state of the fuel cell module.10-22-2009
