20090090305System for humans and pets to interact remotely - A system that allows humans to interact with and send touch remotely to their pets. The system has a tangible interface for humans that allow both visual and tactile modes of communication on one end, and a haptic pet wearable jacket on the other end. It allows humans to interact remotely with pets even when they are not physically at the same place as the pets. On the tangible interface for humans, human views the real time movement of the pet in the form of a pet doll sitting on a mechanical positioning system. The movement of the actual pet is tracked using a web camera. The pet doll has embedded touch sensing circuit that senses and transmit data wirelessly to the computer. This touch data is sent across the Internet to another computer which is connected to the haptic pet wearable jacket. The real pet wears the pet jacket, which is able to reproduce the touching sensation via vibrating motors. The pet owner can tangibly touch the pet doll, sending touch signals to the pet in a remote location. Also, the pet owner receives a visual feedback from the movement of the pet via the pet doll interface.04-09-2009
20110291953ROBOT DEVICE AND PLATFORM FOR SOCIAL NETWORKING - A small microcontroller based robotic toy includes various rich features on its small footprint. User input sensing includes a smooth scrolling enabled resistive or capacitive touch sensing pad primarily for child-friendly menu navigation. Pressure activated squeeze areas of the robot surface facilitate exchange of special gifts and emoticons through a network. Additionally, the robotic toy allows a user to experience a multimodal engagement visually via a miniature OLED graphics display, audibly by an embedded audio system for producing sounds and through haptics using a vibrotactile effects generator.12-01-2011

20080234930NAVIGATION UNIT AND BASE STATION - The present invention relates to a navigation unit and base station used for determining location. A plurality of base stations are initialized to determine their location relative to each other. At the navigation unit, the time of arrival of at least one signal from each of the plurality of base stations is measured. From this, the location of the navigation unit relative to the plurality of base stations may be directly calculated using a closed solution. In one embodiment, a time of arrival technique is used and in another embodiment a time difference of arrival technique is used. Preferably an ultra-wide band frequency is utilized.09-25-2008
20090217797GUITAR PICK - A guitar pick having a planar and generally triangular main body with three sides. Two sides of the main body join in a rounded nose protruding outwardly from one side. A wing extends outwardly from the top of the main body so that at least a portion of the wing lies in a plane oblique to a plane of the main body. The wing may be curvilinear in shape or include plural planar sections.09-03-2009

20120128334APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MASHUP OF MULTIMEDIA CONTENT - An apparatus and method for combining multimedia data are provided. The method includes obtaining first multimedia content from a first source, obtaining second multimedia content from a second source, selectively combining the first multimedia content with the second multimedia content, and outputting the selectively combined multimedia content. According to implementations of the invention, selected portions and/or fragments of multimedia content may be mashed up rather than the entirety of the multimedia content from either or both sources. Also, the mashup of the multimedia content may be varied and adapted based on the characteristics of the device performing the mashup as well as the characteristics of the available transport mechanism. Finally, implementations of the invention provide for flexible transformation and precise synchronization among multimedia elements.05-24-2012

20090092190METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR INTEGRATING EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS INTO AN MPEG-4 SCENE - A method of decoding, composing and rendering a scene. First information is obtained, the first information including a part of a MPEG-4 BIFS scene description stream and at least one coded MPEG-4 media stream. The first information is decoded by invoking a BIFS scene decoder and one or more specific media decoders that are required by the scene. Second information is obtained, the second information including a second part of a BIFS scene description stream that contains a reference to an external application. The second information is decoded by invoking the BIFS scene decoder and an external application decoder. An integrated scene is composed, the integrated scene including one or more decoded MPEG-4 media objects and one or more external application objects specified in the decoded scene descriptions streams. The composed integrated scene is rendered on a display.04-09-2009

20100124274ANALYTICS-MODULATED CODING OF SURVEILLANCE VIDEO - A method and apparatus for encoding surveillance video where one or more regions of interest are identified and the encoding parameter values associated with those regions are specified in accordance with intermediate outputs of a video analytics process. Such an analytics-modulated video compression approach allows the coding process to adapt dynamically based on the content of the surveillance images. In this manner, the fidelity of the region of interest is increased relative to that of a background region such that the coding efficiency is improved, including instances when no target objects appear in the scene. Better compression results can be achieved by assigning different coding priority levels to different types of detected objects.05-20-2010
