20080281080Purification of Recombinant Human Factor XIII - The present invention provides improved methods for the purification of factor XIII. In particular, the methods provide compositions containing 5% or less contaminating proteins. In particular embodiments of the present invention the methods provide purified factor XIII compositions comprising less than 1% activated factor XIII, less than 2% protein aggregates, and/or less than 5% charge isomers of factor XIII. The methods do not require the use a precipitation or crystallization step common to prior methods of isolating factor XIII. Instead, the method uses immobilized metal affinity chromatography to remove various contaminants common to recombinant expression of factor XIII. Further, a combination of various chromatography methods including ion exchange chromatography, hydrophobic affinity chromatography, and immobilized metal affinity chromatography comprise a simple and less expensive method to produce a pharmaceutical grade factor XIII product at high yield.11-13-2008

20110167778CROP CATCHING APPARATUS AND CROP HARVESTING MACHINE EMPLOYING THE SAME - A crop-catching apparatus for use in a crop harvesting machine is disclosed, including one or more plate members and one or more fluid conduits. The plate member) each have a surface adapted for catching falling crops, a front end and a back end, and a leading edge. The back end(s) are configured to pivotally mount on the crop harvesting machine. The front end(s) are configured to rest at a higher elevation with respect to the pivotally mounted back end(s). The conduit(s) are defined within at least one of the plate member(s) for carrying one or more fluids, and include one or more fluid inlets defined on the at least one of the plate member(s) for receiving the one or more fluids; and one or more fluid outlets defined on the at least one of the plate member(s) running at least partially along the leading edge(s) of the at least one of the plate member(s). The fluid outlet(s) are configured such that the one or more fluids exit therefrom to divert a direction of fall of the crops. A crop harvesting machine employing a crop-catching apparatus is also disclosed.07-14-2011

20110087130METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSING AND TREATING AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS - A method for diagnosing and treating an auditory processing disorder. The diagnosis phase includes presenting, simultaneously at least one different audible sound in a user's left ear and right ear. Each sound is different for each ear. A determination is made if the user can correctly recall the sound, whereby incorrect recollection indicates a disorder. The treatment phase includes repetitively presenting over time, the patient/user with different audio signals to each ear with the signals being presented simultaneously. An interface is provided for the patient/user to attempt to reproduce said audio signals presented. The patient's/user's ability to accurately reproduce the correct signals over a period of time is monitored with increasing complexity in the exercises.04-14-2011

20090250201HEAT EXCHANGER HAVING A CONTOURED INSERT AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLING THE SAME - The present invention provides a heat exchanger for transferring heat between a first working fluid and a second working fluid, including a pair of spaced apart headers, a number of tubes extending between the pair of headers and providing a flow path for the first working fluid and being positioned along a flow path for the second working fluid, and an insert supportable in one of the tubes and having a fold extending in a direction substantially parallel to the flow path for the first working fluid through the tubes. The fold can define first and second legs of the insert. A dimple can be formed on the first leg and a protrusion can be formed on the second leg opposite to the dimple on the first leg.10-08-2009

20080286244Bio-Artificial Materials with Tuneable Properties - This invention relates to methods for preparing biomaterials by applying multiple cycles of tensile loading to compacted collagen gels in order to fuse the collagen fibrils together within the compacted gels. This produces a biomaterial with improved material properties. Biomaterials produced by such methods may be useful, for example, as tissue equivalent implants, in the repair and/or replacement of damaged tissue in an individual.11-20-2008
20110070646Biomimetic Cell Scaffolds - This invention relates to biomimetic implants containing mammalian cells which are induced by their environment to produce gradients of diffusible factors. This may be useful in eliciting a physiological pro-angiogenic response which stimulates angiogenesis and revascularisation in tissue adjacent the implant, for example in therapeutic applications in which increased angiogenesis and/or vasculogenesis is required. This may also be useful in providing biomimetic mammalian cell niches for cell culture and differentiation.03-24-2011
