| 20100238538 | OPTICAL FIBER AMPLIFIER AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME - A method is provided for forming an optical fiber amplifier. The method comprises providing a composite preform having a gain material core that includes one or more acoustic velocity varying dopants to provide a longitudinally varying acoustic velocity profile along the gain material core to suppress Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) effects by raising the SBS threshold and drawing the composite preform to form the optical fiber amplifier. | 09-23-2010 |

| 20100211388 | Speech Enhancement with Voice Clarity - A method for enhancing speech components of an audio signal composed of speech and noise components processes subbands of the audio signal, the processing including controlling the gain of the audio signal in ones of the subbands, wherein the gain in a subband is controlled at least by processes that convey either additive/subtractive differences in gain or multiplicative ratios of gain so as to reduce gain in a subband as the level of noise components increases with respect to the level of speech components in the subband and increase gain in a subband when speech components are present in subbands of the audio signal, the processes each responding to subbands of the audio signal and controlling gain independently of each other to provide a processed subband audio signal. | 08-19-2010 |
| 20110119061 | METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIALOG ENHANCEMENT - A method and system for enhancing dialog determined by an audio input signal. In some embodiments the input signal is a stereo signal, and the system includes an analysis subsystem configured to analyze the stereo signal to generate filter control values, and a filtering subsystem including upmixing circuitry configured to upmix the input signal to generate a speech channel and non-speech channels and a peaking filter configured to filter the speech channel to enhance dialog while being steered by at least one of the control values. The filtering subsystem also includes ducking circuitry for attenuating the non-speech channels while being steered by at least some of the control values, and downmixing circuitry configured to combine outputs of the peaking filter and ducking circuitry to generate a filtered stereo output. In some embodiments, the system is configured to downmix a multichannel input signal to generate a downmixed stereo signal, an analysis subsystem is configured to analyze the downmixed stereo signal to generate filter control values, and a filtering subsystem is configured to generate a dialog-enhanced audio signal in response to the input signal while being steered by at least some of the filter control values. Preferably, the filter control values are generated without use of feedback including by generating power ratios (for pairs of speech and non-speech channels) and preferably also shaping in nonlinear fashion and scaling at least one of the power ratios. | 05-19-2011 |

| 20080306878 | METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ADMINISTERING INDEX-LINKED ANNUITY - A method for administering an annuity product comprises the steps of establishing an annuity account, storing data relating to the account, determining an amount of an income payment and paying the income payment to the account owner. The amount of the income payment is subtracted from an account value. The amount of the account value is adjusted by a first process which includes adjusting the account value by a first index. The amount of the income payment is periodically redetermined by a second process which includes adjusting the amount of the income payment by a second index. The first and second processes are separate processes designed to cause the account value and a present value of the income payments to diverge, such that the value of the income payments becomes increasingly greater relative to the account value during a payout phase of the annuity account. One embodiment comprises a computer system for administering the annuity product in accordance with the subject method. | 12-11-2008 |
