20080264670High performance support-separators for communications cables supporting low voltage and wireless fidelity applications and providing shielding for minimizing alien crosstalk - The present invention includes a high performance communications cable that provides for wireless fidelity applications and includes core support-separators having profiles which define a clearance to maintain spacing and/or channel between the transmission media and power conductors. The core may be formed of a conductive or insulative material that have, principally, polymer blends that include olefin and/or fluoropolymer and/or chlorofluoropolymer based resins. The polymer blends can also be utilized for fabricating shielding materials. The core support-separators have both a central region as well as a plurality of shaped sections that extend outward from the central region that are either solid or partially solid, foamed or foamed with a solid skin surface.10-30-2008
20090197080Self-crimping fluoropolymer and perfluoropolymer filaments and fibers - Disclosed is a method and device for creating three dimensional (3D) self-crimping fluoropolymer(s) and perfluoropolymer(s) filaments via extrusion through a spinneret plate orifice with a hole and elliptical gap and using die swell to close the elliptical gap in the filament forming a seam causing uneven stresses in the longitudinal length of the filament while cooling thereby causing the filament to self-crimp toward the seam.08-06-2009
20110076907Apparatus and method for melt spun production of non-woven fluoropolymers or perfluoropolymers - Disclosed is an apparatus, process, and product allowing for the manufacture of non-woven fluoropolymers, perfluoropolymers, and high temperature engineering resin filaments obtained from low melt index polymers. The fibers have continuous structural integrity created by using a heated duct that provides for maintaining an elevated filament temperature during filament draw down. The apparatus allows for entanglement and melt bonding of the fluoropolymers perfluoropolymers, and high temperature engineering resin filaments.03-31-2011

The composition of the invention can be is chemically foamable yielding homogeneous foamed insulating structures which excel simultaneously in providing excellent insulating properties on metal wires or optical fibers, outstanding processing parameters for high speed cable manufacture and high performance ratings on flammability, smoke generation and fuel load. Specifically, the foamable perfluoropolymer cellular insulation composition comprises blending or individually utilizing; a selected perfluoropolymer in combination with magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate and Aclyn® wax; a second composition comprising the first composition and an additional selected one or more perfluoropolymers; a third composition comprising; talc and the selected one or more perfluoropolymers; a fourth composition comprising; the second composition, the third composition and the selected one or more perfluoropolymers. A single compounded pellet or product resulting in cellular foams obtained from melt processing the pellets has also been realized by providing the melt combination of only talc and a perfluoropolymer. The present invention includes a foamable perfluoropolymer composition comprising at least one melt-processible per(halo)fluoropolymer; and a blowing agent comprising an effective amount of magnesium carbonate; and 02-19-2009
20100072644Compositions, additives, and compounds for melt processable, foamable, and cellular fluoroploymers - The disclosure provides a composition or set of compositions and method for producing cellular, foamed, or blown fluoropolymers such as perfluoropolymers and other thermoplastics to create a lower cost communications cable, conductor separator, conductor support-separator, jacketing, tape, wire insulation and in some cases a conduit tube as individual components or combined configurations that exhibit improved electrical, flammability and optical properties. Specifically, the foamable or blown perfluoropolymer cellular insulation composition comprises; talc and the selected fluoropolymers such as perfluoropolymers. Compounded pellets including inorganic and organic fillers resulting in products in cellular or foamable form with and without solid skin surfaces has also been realized by providing melt combinations within the pellets primarily comprising talc and a perfluoropolymer, and additives as needed to provide desired property differentiation.03-25-2010
20100151243COMPOSITIONS FOR COMPOUNDING FOAMABLE, FLUROPOLYMER PELLETS FOR USE IN MELT PROCESSING CELLULAR OR FOAMED FLUOROPOLYMER APPLICATIONS - The disclosure provides a composition as well as a set of compositions and method for producing cellular or foamed or blown fluoropolymers such as perfluoropolymers and other thermoplastics articles allowing for the creation of a lower cost communications cable, conductor separator, conductor support-separator, jacketing, tape, wire insulation and in some cases a conduit tube as individual components or combined configurations that exhibit improved electrical, flammability and optical properties. 20100243291HIGH PERFORMANCE COMMUNICATIONS CABLES SUPPORTING LOW VOLTAGE AND WIRELESS FIDELITY APPLICATIONS PROVIDING REDUCED SMOKE AND FLAME SPREAD - The present invention provides conductive and/or insulative compositions comprising polymer blends that include olefin and/or fluoropolymer and/or chlorofluoropolymer based resins with and without inorganic additives. These compositions reduce flammability and smoke generation and are used primarily for insulation materials and for high performance communications cables. In addition, support-separators using these same compositions, to be used within the communications cables, and normally within the cable core, are described. These unique compositions include polymer blends that offer both flame and smoke suppression while maintaining the characteristics necessary to improve electrical performance and allow for severe cost reduction over conventional separators. These polymers blends can also be utilized for fabricating shielding materials. The specially shaped core support-separators can be either interior to the cable jacket or be employed singularly without the benefit of a jacket and extend along the longitudinal length of the communications cable. Alternatively, if no jacket is used for cable completion, a portion of the separator with a thin layer of material surrounding the separator core can act as a type of skin for mechanical protection. Specially shaped core support-separators have both a central region as well as a plurality of shaped sections that extend outward from the central region for which the materials of construction are either solid or partially solid, foamed or foamed with a solid skin surface.09-30-2010
