LIGHT-GUIDE SOLAR PANEL AND METHOD OF FABRICATION THEREOF - The present invention is that of a solar energy system that uses a light-guide solar panel (LGSP) to trap light inside a dielectric or other transparent panel and propagates the light to one of the panel edges for harvesting by a solar energy collector such as a photovoltaic cell. This allows for very thin modules whose thickness is comparable to the height of the solar energy collector. This eliminates eliminating the depth requirements inherent in traditional concentrated photovoltaic solar energy systems. A light guide solar panel has a deflecting layer, a light guide layer and a solar cell in optical communication with the light guide layer. The deflecting layer receives light at a first surface and inputs the light into the light guide layer. The light guide layer propagates the light to the solar cell, which is aligned generally parallel to the input surface. | 01-20-2011

Object identification using quantum dots fluorescence allocated on fraunhofer solar spectral lines - An optical based identification system that is easily deployable and can be used in broad daylight. Fluorescent semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots) that fluoresce at specific wavelengths are distributed in a suitable polymer. The resulting mixture can then be applied as paint or on an adhesive label for application to a portion of any equipment or member of a friendly unit. The system also has a corresponding detectional processing unit which may be mounted on ordnance or on any other equipment such as aircraft. The detection unit uses a laser, which when active, causes a laser beam to strike the paint or adhesive able applied to the friendly unit. This causes the quantum dots to fluoresce. The fluorescence of the quantum dots can be detected by the sensor portion of the detection/processing unit. The sensor portion then transmits the data generated by the detected fluorescence to a data processing portion detection/processing unit such as a corresponding signal to the equipment operator or, if the unit is mounted on ordnance that has been launched to the warhead to deactivate the warhead. To overcome the effects of broad daylight on an optical system, the quantum dots can be detected by the sensor portions of the detection/processing unit. The sensor portion then transmits the data generated by the detected fluorescence to a data processing portion which decodes the data. If the decoded data indicates a friendly unit, the detection/processing unit sends a corresponding signal to the equipment operator or, if the unit is mounted on ordnance that has been launched to the warhead to deactivate the warhead. To overcome the effects of broad daylight on an optical system, the quantum dots are engineered to fluoresce at wavelengths corresponding to the absorption lines of the solar spectrum, more commonly known as Fraunhofer lines. | 12-31-2009
Optical catheter with rotary optical cap - A scanning optical head for a catheter is locally controlled by a motor at an insertion end of the catheter uses a hollow motor through which a longitudinal optical path of the catheter passes. This permits the motor to be positioned between a control base of the catheter and avoids rotating the whole fibre, and therefore makes the beam scanning stable and accurate. In addition, because there is no coupling component, it also eliminates the light reflection between additional surfaces as well as varying fiber birefringence, which becomes a cause of noise when imaging the deep structure. | 10-20-2011

AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF SYSTEMATIC SALES PATTERNS USING AUTOCORRELATION TECHNIQUE - A method, based on autocorrelation techniques, for measuring the relative significance of the systematic versus random components of product sales data. The results of this determination can be used to improve product demand forecast and product seasonal profile determinations. When a product's sales variation is primarily due to systematic patterns, the accuracy of demand predictions and forecasts can be improved by understanding and modeling the underlying pattern. On the other hand, when variations in sales are merely random, these variations can be discounted when determining demand forecasts or product seasonal profiles. | 09-16-2010

AUTOMATIC CALCULATION OF FORECAST RESPONSE FACTOR - A forecast response factor (RF) determines how quickly product demand forecasts should react to recent changes in demand. The present subject matter provides automatic calculation of the RF, based at least in part on the nature of the product sales (autocorrelation) and the status of recent forecasts (bias). | 06-17-2010
METHOD FOR UPDATING REGRESSION COEFFICIENTS IN A CAUSAL PRODUCT DEMAND FORECASTING SYSTEM - An improved method for forecasting and modeling product demand for a product. The forecasting methodology employs a causal methodology, based on multiple regression techniques, to model the effects of various factors on product demand, and hence better forecast future patterns and trends, improving the efficiency and reliability of the inventory management systems. A product demand forecast is generated by blending forecast or expected values of the non-redundant causal factors together with corresponding regression coefficients determined through the analysis of historical product demand and factor information. The improved method provides for the saving and updating of previously calculated intermediate regression analysis results and regression coefficients, significantly reducing data transfer time and computational efforts required for additional regression analysis and coefficient determination. | 07-01-2010
