INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANT COMPONENT WITH THREE POINTS OF CONTACT - An intervertebral implant is made up of components which each have an inner surface and an outer surface which engages an adjacent vertebra and presents only three distinct points of contact with a cortical rim of the vertebra. Preferably, the outer surface has a footprint which is sized to be within that of the cortical rim. In disclosed embodiments, the footprint can be convexo-concave shaped, D shaped, or kidney shaped. The intervertebral implant can be provided with upper and lower (or first and second) components which engage adjacent first and second vertebrae and which move relative to one another. The implant has both the first and second outer surfaces sized to present a respective footprint sufficient for two lateral-anterior and one posterior points of contact with an adjacent cortical rim of the respective first and second vertebra. | 09-18-2008

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMMEDIATE DISPLAY OF MULTICAST IPTV OVER A BANDWIDTH CONSTRAINED NETWORK - In a packet based multicast video streaming network, a method for minimizing delay in displaying video on a TV set in response to a viewer changing the channel is disclosed. For each live multicast video stream, one or more reference frames and corresponding compressed frames are temporarily stored in a memory in anticipation of the viewer switching to that particular program. When the viewer changes channels, the previously stored reference and compressed frames are immediately read from the memory and rendered for display on the TV. This eliminates the need to wait for the next available reference frame. In other words, this eliminates a temporary blank TV screen each time the channel is changed. Certain compressed frames are dropped and blank frames can be inserted in order to catch up to and synchronize with the live video broadcast. The particular frames to be dropped and the number of blank frames to be inserted is a function of the bandwidth limitation imposed by the last mile of the network. | 06-02-2011

INTELLIGENT ROUTING OF COORDINATED AUDIO, VIDEO, WEB SERVICES AND MEASUREMENT DATA STREAMS - A system may receive a request from a client station to communicate with any available expert that matches at least one criterion. The system determines an identity of an expert station associated with an expert matching the at least one criterion. The system may then establish a session between the client station and the expert station, where the session includes a first connection and a second connection, the first connection is for transmission of audio/video, and the second connection is for transmission of telemetry data during the transmission of the audio/video. The telemetry data is measured at the client station. | 09-16-2010

Ranking Messages in an Electronic Messaging Environment - The present invention provides methods and systems to score messages exchanged over a network. The methods and systems may gather message interactions of a recipient. A message originating from a sender and destined for the recipient may be received at an email client. A sender score of the message may be determined based on one or more of sender information, the gathered message interactions, and one or more attributes associated with the message. The message may be marked with the determined score in a user interface associated with the email client. | 03-25-2010

ACTIVE OPTICAL CABLE APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING OPTICAL FIBER BREAKAGE - Embodiments of the invention include an active optical cable and method for controlling the operation of the active optical cable based on the detection of signal loss, e.g., due to fiber breakage, within the active optical cable. The active optical cable includes first and second optical transceivers, each with an open fiber control module coupled between the transmission side and the receiver side of the respective optical transceiver. The transmission side of each optical transceiver is coupled to the receiver side of the other optical transceiver via a plurality of transmission channels, such as a plurality of optical fibers. Each open fiber control module is configured to detect an optical power level of an optical signal received by the receiver side of the optical transceiver within which the open fiber control module resides and, based on such detection, control the operation of the corresponding transmission side of the optical transceiver. | 01-20-2011
