LABELS, RELATED PADS THEREOF, AND RELATED METHODS - A label is provided that includes a body portion having an area, a front surface, and a back surface. The label also includes a tab portion having an area and a back surface, and the tab portion is integrally coupled to the body portion and extending from an end of the body portion. A line of weakness divides the tab portion and the body portion, and the line of weakness is formed such that the tab portion is selectively separable form the body portion along the line of weakness. A layer of adhesive is provided on the back surface of the body portion of the label, and a majority of the back surface of the tab portion is free of adhesive. The area of the tab portion is less than the area of the body portion. | 10-27-2011

Lower alkyl carboxylic acid moieties as organoleptic stabilizers and preservatives of food and beverages and for preventing oxidative corrosion of metals - Compositions and methods are disclosed for preventing the oxidative corrosion of metal surfaces by exposing such a surface to an anti-corrosion agent characterized as a lower alkyl carboxylic acid or salts and/or other derivatives that conserve or embody the lower alkyl carboxylic acid moiety present in their molecular structure. The anti-corrosion agent may be used in combination with a material capable of forming a moisture retentive barrier over the metal surface. Compositions and methods of preparing food and/or beverage preservatives or stabilizers are also disclosed. To prepare a preservative composition, an ingestible anti-corrosion agent, such as an ingestible agent including a lower alkyl carboxylic acid moiety, is combined with a suitable food grade polymer. The anti-corrosion agent and polymer are admixed in a particular order to maximize the preservative properties thereof. The compositions and methods of the invention provide a practical, non-toxic way, e.g., of ensuring anti-corrosion protection for metals, or devices containing exposed metals, stored or operated in water or in the presence of water vapor. Exemplary, non-exhaustive uses of the invention include employing the composition as lubricant for the surface of a metal or as a pump oil or brake fluid; using the composition as an undercoating for painting, electro-plating or electro-polishing procedures; and providing a protective coating for any metal or metal-containing machine or device, form automotive assembly plant metal press machines to electronic circuit boards. | 09-04-2008

NETWORK POPULATION MAPPING - Provided herein are methods for mapping quantitative trait loci in a connected population of organisms. The invention includes evaluating associations between markers and a trait of interest using network population mapping (NPM). The methods include assembling a network of individual members for association mapping, wherein the members are connected at the allelic level. Members of the network are grouped according to a shared haplotype at one or more marker loci, and the network can be used to identify or validate QTL within the chromosomal region surrounding or flanked by the marker loci. The methods further include a means for estimating and ranking the effects of multiple alleles across the mapping population. Further provided is a novel simple interval mapping model as well as a novel composite interval mapping model for evaluating allele-specific associations across a connected mapping population. | 10-21-2010

OPTICAL TRANSMITTER WITH ADAPTIVELY CONTROLLED OPTICALLY LINEARIZED MODULATOR - An optical transmitter for generating a modulated optical signal to be transmitted over fiber optical link. The transmitter includes: an optical source for producing an optical signal; an optically linearized modulator (OLM) as external modulator for modulating the optical signal produced by the optical source with an information carrying signal. The external modulator includes a first input port for receiving a first DC bias signal, and a second input port for receiving a second DC bias signal. The optical transmitter further includes a pilot tone generator for generating a first pilot signal to be applied to the first input port and a second pilot signal to be applied to the second input port. The first and second pilot signals are capable of producing distortion products in the modulated optical signal. A differential modulation signal is imposed onto either the first pilot signal or the second pilot signal so as to generate a first control signal that alternately adjusts the first DC bias signal and the second DC bias signal in order to minimize the distortion products. The optical transmitter may include a digital based control system that is adapted to reduce composite even and odd order distortions in the OLM. | 09-17-2009

LASER PROJECTION MARKING SYSTEM - The system contains a plurality of laser projectors. An image of a marking is projected in a synchronized form by the plurality of laser projectors. A computer network provides communication with the laser projectors. A central workstation communicates with the laser projectors through the computer network. The central workstation coordinates the image projected by the laser projectors. | 08-06-2009
