20100101604WINDSHIELD WIPER DE-ICING - Methods and apparatus are provided for vehicle windshield washing-wiping and wiper de-icing. Primary nozzles provide washing fluid to the windshield during normal operations and secondary nozzles bathe the wiper arms with washing fluid to de-ice the wipers during a de-icing mode. Washing fluid is drawn from a reservoir and delivered to the nozzles by a pump. When the outside air temperature T is greater than Tc, the critical temperature for ice formation, the wipers and washing-wiping proceed normally with washing fluid delivered to the primary nozzles for windshield washing. When T≦Tc and the wipers are not moving, a washer fluid supply line valve delivers washing fluid to the secondary nozzles to de-ice the wipers. The wiper motor, washing fluid pump and valve are operated by a controller based on inputs from wiper position and air temperature sensors, using predetermined information stored in on-board memory.04-29-2010
20100122870ENGINE WITH OIL PUMP MUFFLER AND NOISE DAMPER - A wrap-around cover or noise muffler of oil and temperature resistant noise absorbing resilient elastomer covers the front and sides of a front mounted engine oil pump forming a pump and muffler assembly. The muffler absorbs vibrations and reduces the transfer of noise frequencies from the oil pump to an engine front cover that covers the pump. Additionally, the front of the muffler is shaped to fill the gap and engage the front cover in compression between the oil pump and the rear surface of the front cover, thereby damping vibrations of the front cover adjacent to the oil pump and to an accessory drive pulley that rotates ahead of the front cover for driving accessories.05-20-2010

20080301213DIVISION WITH RECTANGULAR MULTIPLIER SUPPORTING MULTIPLE PRECISIONS AND OPERAND TYPES - A division method includes determining a precision indicator for the division operation that indicates whether the quotient should be a single precision, double precision, or extended precision floating-point number. The division is performed at a rectangular multiplier using the Goldschmidt or Newton-Raphson algorithm. Each algorithm calculates one or more intermediate values in order to determine the quotient. For example, the Goldschmidt algorithm calculates a complement of a product of the dividend and an estimate of the reciprocal of the divisor. The quotient is determined based on a portion of one or more of these intermediate values. Because only a portion of the intermediate value is used, the division can be performed efficiently at the rectangular multiplier, and therefore the quotient can be determined more quickly and still achieve the desired level of precision.12-04-2008

20090230580Systems and Techniques for Reducing Group Delay Ripple in a Dispersion Compensating Grating - A technique is described for reducing group delay ripple in a fiber dispersion compensation grating. The grating is mounted into a trimming setup that includes a trimming device and a scanning assembly for causing a region of the grating to be scanned along its length by the trimming device output. The grating is sensitive to the trimming device output, such that exposure to the trimming device output causes a change in the effective refractive index of the scanned region, the amount of change varying as a function of scanning velocity. A region of the grating to be trimmed is selected, and a scanning velocity profile is programmed into the scanning assembly that is calculated to modify the effective refractive index of the selected grating region along its length so as to smooth out group delay ripple in the selected grating region.09-17-2009
