20080290990 | UNIVERSAL HANDS FREE KEY AND LOCK SYSTEM AND METHOD - Methods and systems are provided for a universal key that enables a user to have access to any type of secured portal, both physical and electronic, in a wireless, hands-free, distance-independent manner without requiring contact or line of sight access between the key and the secured portal. The universal key is not distance-dependent, and each secured portal can be provided with its own prescribed activation range, if desired. Some portals may be provided with long range activation, such as 50 feet, while other portals may be provided with short range activation of a few feet or less. The type of portal being secured and the range of activation may be selected by the user and is not limited by the universal key. In addition, the universal key will provide access to the secured portals in a hands-free fashion so that the user need not push any buttons or take any other action in order to obtain access to the portal. The user need only carry the universal key somewhere on their person in order to access the portal. | 11-27-2008 |

20120169543 | TRUE OMNI-DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA - An antenna and a method for using the antenna in a wireless appliance are provided. The antenna includes a conducting surface having a length and a width; a dielectric slit having a slit length portion oriented along either the length or the width, the slit forming two lips on the conducting surface; the slit having an opening on one of the length and the width, the opening having a flare size; a feed-point element connecting the two lips; wherein the dimensions of the length, the width, the slit length portion, and the flare size are smaller than an effective propagation wavelength of the RF radiation in the antenna. An antenna including a conducting surface having a conductive plate with a plate area defined by a plate perimeter overlaying a portion of a conducting surface is also provided. A method to provide an antenna as above is also disclosed. | 07-05-2012 |
20130241694 | NON-CONTACT ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS HAVING SPECIALIZED RADIO FREQUENCY BEAM FORMATION - An electronic door lock (“EDL”) is adapted to interact with an electronic key unit having a key antenna and a transmitter configured to transmit a radio frequency (“RF”) signal over the key antenna, the RF signal containing an identification (“ID”) code identifying the electronic key unit. The EDL can include a first antenna adapted to form a first directional radiation beam to receive the RF signal from the key unit, a second antenna adapted to form a second directional radiation beam to receive the RF signal from the key unit, and a processing component adapted to use RF signals received by one or both of the first and second antenna to determine whether the presence of an acceptable ID code is detected on the key. The EDL can determine the location of the key, and whether the key is inside or outside of the room. | 09-19-2013 |

20090282387 | SYSTEM AND PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR PROVIDING COMPUTING-ENVIRONMENT CONTROL OF A RESOURCE TO BE ACCESSED BY PROGRAM CODE - A system and program product for facilitating computing-environment control of a resource to be accessed by existing program code is provided which includes transparently replacing an uncontrolled resource referenced by existing program code with a resource controlled by a computing environment. The protocol also includes transparently interposing at least one resource management service of the computing environment between the existing program code and the resource controlled by the computing environment, wherein the at least one resource management service provides computing-environment control of the resource to be accessed by the existing program code. The replacing of the uncontrolled resource prevents the existing program code from directly accessing the resource. | 11-12-2009 |

20150066805 | LOCATION-BASED ADAPTATION OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - Location-based adaptation of financial management system. Crowdsourced feedback regarding financial management system content is tagged with location data such as an IP address and/or geographic location data. Location-specific counters track feedback received from different locations and may involve different languages, dialects, phrases or other manners of expression associated with different countries, states or regions thereof. When pre-determined criteria is satisfied, e.g., a threshold number of counts associated with a particular location, associated location-based feedback is analyzed and identified feedback patterns are used to selectively modify previously presented financial management system content and adapt the financial management system is adapted to different locations by presenting first modified content based at least in part upon a first identified pattern to users at a first location and second modified content based at least in part upon a second identified pattern to users at a different, second location. | 03-05-2015 |
