20080305357COLOR MATCHING PROCESS FOR MAXIMIZING HIDING AND WORKABILITY WITH WATERBORNE COATING COMPOSITIONS - A method of selecting tints for a colored coating composition is disclosed. The method includes (a) providing a plurality of tints, each tint comprising a pigment dispersed in a resinous carrier binder; (b) preparing a plurality coating composition, each coating compositions comprising a resinous coating binder and at least one of the tints, the total binder content being the amount of carrier binder and coating binder; (c) determining the absorbance of radiation in a wavelength band of each coating composition; (d) identifying coating compositions of step (b) having a maximum weight ratio of pigment to total binder and a maximum amount of resinous carrier binder and exhibiting a minimum absorbance in the wavelength band; and (e) selecting the tints from the coating compositions identified in step (d) for use in preparing a colored coating composition.12-11-2008
20090097125METHOD OF CONTROLLING REFLECTION FROM A VEHICLE WINDSHIELD - A vehicle glare reduction system is provided, which improves the visual acuity of the vehicle operator in vehicles having a light-colored dashboard. The system includes a dashboard having an upper surface from which dashboard light is reflected; a windshield having an inner and outer surface, the windshield surface configured to reflect the dashboard reflected light; and a polarization layer disposed on the dashboard upper surface, adapted to polarize the dashboard reflected light, wherein the polarized light is not reflected by the windshield inner surface.04-16-2009
20090102100FIBER FORMATION BY ELECTRICAL-MECHANICAL SPINNING - A method of fiber formation by electrical-mechanical spinning is disclosed. A liquid starting material is fed to a rotating annular member such as a spinning cup. The liquid material is directed by centrifugal force to the periphery of the annular member where it is expelled in fibrous form. An electric charge is imposed on the liquid while on the annular member or while immediately being expelled from the annular member.04-23-2009
20090155545METHOD OF IMAGING IN CRYSTALLINE COLLOIDAL ARRAYS - A method of producing an image in the crystalline colloidal array is disclosed. The method includes providing an ordered array of particles received within a curable matrix composition; curing a first portion of the matrix composition, wherein the first cured portion diffracts radiation at a first wavelength; curing another portion of the matrix composition, wherein the other cured portion diffracts radiation at another wavelength; and exposing the array to radiation to exhibit an image.06-18-2009
20090221748COATING COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING A POLYMER CONTAINING AN OLIGOMERIC MACROMONOMER - The present invention is directed to a coating composition comprising a polymer that comprises an oligomeric macromonomer and a core from which the oligomeric macromonomer extends, wherein the oligomeric macromonomer comprises reactive functional groups and has an average functionality ranging from 1.0 to 30, and wherein the core is <10 weight % of the total polymer weight.09-03-2009
20100063195USE OF NANOPARTICULATE ORGANIC PIGMENTS IN PAINTS AND COATINGS - A protective and decorative coating composition including about 2 to 10 different colorants which in combination with a resinous composition produce a desired visible coating. A majority of the colorants has a maximum haze of about 10% and exhibits an absorbance peak in the visible spectrum wherein at least about 50% of the total absorbance in the visible spectrum occurs at wavelengths within about 50 nm of the wavelength of the peak absorbance.03-11-2010
