20080243123Maxillary Bone Cutting System, Kit, and Method of Using the Same - A device includes a tubular element, and a cutter spring-biased relative to the tubular element. In an unloaded configuration the cutter is displaced relative to the tubular element by a displacement distance, and when the cutter is in a loaded configuration the displacement distance is reduced. A first structure is longitudinally fixed relative to the cutter and rotationally engaged relative to the tubular element. A length of the first structure extends proximally in the unloaded configuration. A second structure is longitudinally displaceable relative to the first structure. In the loaded configuration, a driver engages and rotates both the first and second structures, and thus the tubular element and cutter together. Once the cutter breaks through the bone, the cutter spring-biased into the unloaded configuration, resulting in disengagement of the first structure from the driver to prevent rotation of either the tubular element or the cutter.10-02-2008

20100101682METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REDUCING PRODUCT BREAKAGE IN A PACKAGING MACHINE - A method for reducing product breakage while filling a product into a package and apparatus for accomplishing the same. The invention describes reducing the momentum of product falling through a filling apparatus to reduce collisions of the product with other product and with the apparatus, thus reducing breakage. The vertical momentum, in one embodiment is transferred to horizontal momentum by imparting a swirling motion onto the product via swirling vanes located on the funnels. Because the product swirls in a controlled direction, collisions and breakage is effectively reduced. In another embodiment, the product encounters bumpers which absorb a portion of the products momentum and which prevent damaging collisions.04-29-2010

20100131061HAPTIC DEVICES FOR INTRAOCULAR LENS - The inventive is directed to a haptic for fixation to, and manufacture in conjunction with, an intraocular lens to be implanted in the natural lens capsule of the human eye. The haptic secures the lens in an appropriate position within the natural capsule so as to provide optimal visual acuity through the aphakic lens. The haptic ends are designed to position the lens neutrally, anteriorly or posteriorly within the lens envelope. At the connection point of the ribbon portion to the solid end plate of the haptic, the haptic may be notched to facilitate compressing the lens into its injector for insertion into the eye through an incision in the cornea. Once compressed and passed through the cornea, the implanted lens will be secured by the haptics in the lens capsule once all possible natural lens material and epithelial cells have been removed.05-27-2010

20110191086MODEL OF ACCOMMODATIVE INTRAOCULAR LENS - The invention is directed to a model comprising a diagrammatical and geometric simplification of the components of the natural eye whose functionality is fundamental to the successful performance of a pseudo-aphakic accommodative lens. This model allows for a functional correlation of each component of the ophthalmic device with the patient needs. The eye model was developed to show the movement of the eye from the distance vision to the near vision positions through multiple phases of accommodative motion. The inventive model was developed using a mathematical series of formulas to calculate each of the components of focal accommodation in a human eye, quantify these, and construct the pictorial ramifications of such calculations. The inventive model presents an analysis of accommodative dynamics in the human eye with the natural lens in place. The inventive model also demonstrates the accommodative dynamics with a proprietary IOL in place of the natural lens and situated within the lens capsule.08-04-2011
