| 20100047762 | METHOD TO MONITOR DRUG EFFICACY IN DIABETIC PATIENTS USING AN ASSAY FOR 1,5-ANHYDRO-D-GLUCITOL - HbA1c measurement is a critical component of diabetes management; however, a key limitation of HbA1c as a measure of glycemia is the lack of timeliness—it does not detect underlying blood glucose excursion levels in moderately controlled diabetic patients (HbA1c<8) as it is a measurement of mean glucose levels over the longer-term. HbA1c also averages both hypo- and hyperglycemia over two to three months; therefore, it does not adequately reflect improvements in post-prandial hyperglycemia. 1,5-AG is also a marker of glycemic control over a shorter one to two week timeframe, but with a different mechanism than HbA1c. Given the unique biological and physiological characteristics of 1,5-AG, it is sensitive to acute and transient episodes of hyper-glycemia and is, therefore, a better indicator of glucose excursions. Peptidyl diabetic drugs such as pramlintide and exenatide have unique mechanisms of action and the glycemic effects of these drugs are not adequately shown by HbA1c. 1,5-AG, an effective measure of glucose excursions, reveals underlying treatment effects of these drugs and can help regulate their dosage. | 02-25-2010 |

| 20110018245 | INFLATABLE AIRBAG ASSEMBLIES WITH MODULAR COMPONENTS AND RELATED METHODS OF MANUFACTURE - Inflatable airbag cushions often have modular components attached to them after the main airbag has been manufactured. Such modular components can include external tethers, mounting tabs, mounting assemblies, inflatable curtain ramps, and fill tubes. Often, these modular components are positioned at predetermined locations on the airbag. The modular component can be coupled to the airbag by employing one or more adhesives. Also, the modular component can be coupled to the airbag by stitching. | 01-27-2011 |
| 20110025023 | INFLATOR-AIRBAG INTERFACE - An airbag deployed by pressurized gas emitted from an inflator in a vehicle passenger safety module includes an inflation portion that captures pressurized gas from the inflator and an inlet portion that communicates with the inflation portion and is configured to receive and to be secured to the outer surface of the discharge end of the inflator. A substantially continuous elastomeric gasket made of cured liquid silicone is carried on the interior surface of the inlet portion at a location that circumscribes the outer surface of the discharge end of the inflator, when the discharge end is received into the inlet portion. The transverse extent of the gasket is substantially smaller than its longitudinal extent, while the thickness of the gasket is greater than the thickness of the wall of the inlet portion of the airbag upon which the gasket is carried. Thus, a coupling structure for effecting the interconnection between an inflator and an airbag in a vehicle passenger safety module takes the from of a cured band of liquid sealant that is disposed between an exterior surface of the discharge end of the inflator and an interior surface of an inlet portion of the airbag due to being is secured directly to the interior surface of the inlet portion. | 02-03-2011 |

| 20120275180 | Light Diffusing Fibers and Methods for Making the Same - Light diffusing optical fibers and methods for producing light diffusing optical fibers are disclosed. In one embodiment, a light diffusing optical fiber includes a core portion formed from silica glass and comprising a plurality of helical void randomly distributed in the core portion of the optical fiber and wrapped around the long axis of the optical fiber. A pitch of the helical voids may vary along the axial length of the light diffusing optical fiber in order to achieve the desired illumination along the length of the optical fiber. A cladding may surround the core portion. Light guided by the core portion is scattered by the helical voids radially outward, through the cladding, such that the light diffusing optical fiber emits light with a predetermined intensity over an axial length of the light diffusing optical fiber, the light diffusing optical fiber having a scattering induced attenuation loss greater than about 0.2 dB/m at a wavelength of 550 nm. | 11-01-2012 |
