20080253481Method for computing the frequency of a signal from in-phase and quadrature components - A novel method and apparatus for computing the phase derivative and also the frequency of a received signal from digital baseband In-Phase (I) and Quadrature (Q) samples is derived and implemented. The resulting method computes the phase derivative and frequency of a received signal from I and Q data directly without the intermediate problem of phase unwrapping required for computing the derivative of modulo-mapped phase. The apparatus is intended for use both in single channel systems performing digital frequency demodulation and in direction-finding systems computing differential phase across two channels.10-16-2008

20090011125Deicer mixing method - An apparatus for applying a liquid coating to a deicer composition, methods of applying a liquid coating to a deicer composition, and solid deicer compositions that have been coated using the apparatus or method of the invention are disclosed. The apparatus includes a screw conveyor that has a housing, at least one screw with a plurality of flights, an inlet for uncoated deicer, an inlet for a liquid coating composition, and an outlet for deicer coated with the liquid coating composition. The screws contain protrusions or tabs that extend from the surrounding surface of the screw. These protrusions or tabs aid in the mixing of the solid deicer and the liquid coating composition in order to provide a well-mixed deicer that resists caking while avoiding losing the coating composition to leaching.01-08-2009

20100163340ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT SEGMENTED LADDER/BRIDGE SYSTEM - A dual-use ladder and bridge modular system preferably includes tubes, gussets, flanges, and/or joints. In a preferred embodiment, the tubes, gussets, flanges, and/or joints are made of carbon fiber. A method connects and disconnects modular carbon fiber ladder segments. Another method creates a lightweight carbon-fiber beam with exceptionally high stiffness and strength using a combination of carbon-fiber braid material, uni-directional cloth, and pultruded carbon-fiber strips. A carbon fiber ladder segment and tube connectors are also disclosed.07-01-2010
201001925063-DIMENSIONAL UNIVERSAL TUBE CONNECTOR SYSTEM - The present invention includes a system for connecting tubes or rods, which are preferably uni-directional pultruded, filament wound, or roll-wrapped carbon-fiber tubes or rods, together to form trusses and other structures using a series of connector pieces preferably bonded together with adhesive.08-05-2010

20100056355GAS PORE FORMER IN CELLULAR MONOLITHS - Porous ceramic articles may be produced by using a gas as a pore former, where the gas is injected into a ceramic precursor batch material and mixed. Pressure is then applied to mixture such that the gas liquefies. The pressure is maintained during formation of a green body, maintaining the gas in a liquefied state. After formation of the green body, the pressure is removed whereby the gas returns to a gaseous state, creating pores in the green body. The green body may then be fired to produce a porous ceramic article.03-04-2010

20100254262Tuning congestion control in IP multicast to mitigate the impact of blockage - An IP multicast broadcast device, an IP multicast receiver device, and a method of congestion control in reliable IP multicast are described that mitigate the impact of signal blockage in radio-based IP multicast networks. In one example multicast network, the IP multicast broadcast device, and the IP multicast receiver devices may be configured to support an IGMP-based multicast protocol in which a NORM protocol, a congested packet marking protocol, e.g., such as the ECN protocol described above, and a router congestion prediction protocol, e.g., such as the RED protocol, have been implemented. In addition, the implemented NORM protocol may implement a TCP congestion control algorithm that generates adjusted transmission rates based, at least in part, on a count of ECN congestion marked packets and a count of dropped packets at a selected receiver. As a result, the generated transmission rates are not unduly affected blockage of the radio-based transmission signal.10-07-2010

20080270439Method for Identifying Sub-Sequences of Interest in a Sequence - The present technique provides for the analysis of a data series to identify sequences of interest within the series. The analysis may be used to iteratively update a grammar used to analyze the data series or updated versions of the data series. Furthermore, the technique provides for the calculation of a minimum description length heuristic, such as a symbol compression ratio, for each sub-sequence of the analyzed data sequence. The technique may then compare a selected heuristic value against one or more reference conditions to determine if additional iteration is to be performed. The grammar and the data sequence may be updated between iterations to include a symbol representing a string corresponding to the selected heuristic value based upon a non-termination result of the comparison. Alternatively, the string corresponding to the selected heuristic value may be identified as a sequence of interest based upon a termination result of the comparison.10-30-2008
20110090950SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENHANCING DATA COMPRESSION USING DYNAMIC LEARNING AND CONTROL - A data compression system and method for achieving enhanced compression performance in a plurality of encoder-decoder pairs communicatively coupled in a concatenated chain is disclosed. The plurality of encoder-decoder pairs receive input data and transform the input data into compressed output data. The data compression system includes at least one quality estimator communicatively coupled to the concatenated chain to determine a plurality of quality metrics corresponding to an output from each of the plurality of encoder-decoder pairs. Further, the data compression system also includes a processing subsystem configured to optimize the operation of each of the plurality of encoder-decoder pairs based upon the plurality of quality metrics to achieve a desired level of optimization for the concatenated chain.04-21-2011
