20090283560Machine and process for personal, side mounted biomechanically engineered lifting device; a means of lifting awkward and heavy loads - The side-mounted, biomechanically designed lifting device maximizes the lifting capability of human anatomy. A harness with a shoulder pad crosses the user's body diagonally. The load is supported by an adjustable load strap at the user's side from a support ring attached to the harness. One end of the support strap is attached to the harness and the other to a lifting handle. With this device and method heavy and awkward loads like plywood and drywall may be carried and manipulated easily. The side-mounted lifting harness causes the user to lean away from the load. This transfers the weight of a load to a point near the ground, below the vertical center of gravity of the user and between the lifter's feet. There is significant biomechanical advantage to this load configuration. One person can carry heavy, awkward loads safely and quickly with a minimum of physical stress.11-19-2009

20090091578Adding Secondary Content to Underutilized Space on a Display Device - Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for adding a secondary content to a display with underutilized space are provided. If a primary content, such as a movie, does not fill the entire display then the display includes underutilized space. The dimensions and location of underutilized space, if any, is determined using the characteristics of the display and the primary content. Secondary content, such as advertisements, may then be displayed in the underutilized space.04-09-2009

20080199950Enhanced Bio-Assays By Using Gradient Nanotopgraphy - ABSTRACT A system and method for using gradient nanotopography to increase mammalian cell attachment and cell confinement on surfaces. A surface platform consisting of a thin film of gold possessing a gradient of topography on the surface and self-assembled monolayers of alkanethiols presenting desired functional groups is formed. A gradient in the chemical properties is induced in the terminal groups of the monolayer because of the continuous increase in the surface area and the anisotropy of gold film structure. The gradient nanotopraphy provides simultaneous control of two key properties, the presentation of the terminal functional groups and a continuous increase in the surface density of functional groups on the surface. This control provides for drug screening assays using adherent cell-based experiments.08-21-2008

20110171126Enhanced Cytotoxicity of Anti-CD74 and Anti-HLA-DR Antibodies with Interferon-Gamma - Disclosed herein are methods and compositions comprising interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and anti-CD74 or anti-HLA-DR antibodies. In preferred embodiments, the IFN-γ increases the expression of CD74 and/or HLA-DR in target cells and increases the sensitivity of the cells to the cytotoxic effects of the anti-CD74 or anti-HLA-DR antibodies. The compositions and methods are of use to treat diseases involving CD7407-14-2011

20100196034METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTING NIP WIDTH BASED ON A SCANNED NIP PRINT IN AN IMAGE PRODUCTION DEVICE - A method and apparatus for automatically adjusting nip width based on a scanned nip print in an image production device is disclosed. The method may include automatically inserting a sheet of media into a fuser nip in the image production device upon receiving a signal from a user interface, the fuser nip being an intersection of the fuser roll and the pressure roll, generating a nip print in the fuser nip, the nip print being an image created from the pressure between the fuser roll and the pressure roll, scanning the nip print, determining if a nip width adjustment is required based on the scanned nip print, the nip width being the distance of an arc length created by an intersection of the fuser roll and the pressure roll, and if it is determined that a nip width adjustment is required based on the scanned nip print, adjusting the nip width.08-05-2010
20100196064APPARATUSES USEFUL FOR PRINTING AND METHODS OF STRIPPING MEDIA FROM SURFACES IN APPARATUSES USEFUL FOR PRINTING - Apparatuses useful for printing and methods for stripping media from surfaces in apparatuses useful for printing are disclosed. An apparatus useful for printing comprising a first member including a first outer surface; a second member including a second outer surface; a belt including an inner surface and an outer surface; a first nip formed by contact between the inner surface of the belt and the second outer surface and contact between the outer surface of the belt and the first outer surface; and a stripping mechanism comprising a stripping member disposed internal to the belt. The stripping member is positionable relative to the first nip to vary a pressure applied by the outer surface of the belt against the first outer surface downstream from the first nip. The media are stripped from the outer surface of the belt after exiting from the first nip.08-05-2010

20090003896METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENHANCED SHEET STRIPPING - An enhanced sheet stripping method and apparatus for stripping toner image carrying copy sheets from a surface of a moving heated fusing member forming a fusing nip. The apparatus includes (a) a moving assembly for moving a cut sheet towards the fusing nip; (b) a sheet curling device positioned upstream of the fusing nip relative to movement of the cut sheet for inducing a desired pre-curl in the cut sheet before the cut sheet enters the fusing nip; and (c) a sheet stripping device positioned downstream of the fusing nip for stripping the cut sheet from contact with the surface of the moving heated fusing member as the cut sheet exits the fusing nip. The method includes inducing a desired curl in the cut sheet before the cut sheet enters the fusing nip and enhanced stripping the cut sheet from contact with the surface of the fuser roll as the cut sheet exits the fusing nip.01-01-2009
20090087234ENHANCED FUSER STRIPPING SYSTEM - An improved fuser includes a fuser member, a pressure member that forms a nip with the fuser member through which copy sheets pass to have images fused thereon and an air knife to assist in peeling copy sheets from the fuser member. The air knife has a device connected to it that blocks entrained airflow between the fuser and air knife to reduce fuser cooling and power loss.04-02-2009
