APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING FOAMED MATERIALS - Apparatus and methods for producing a foamed material. Pressurized gas is introduced into a multiple-component mixture that contains a catalyst-containing component and a crosslinker-containing component. The multiple-component mixture may be directly mixed and combined with the gas in a mixing device. Alternatively, the multiple-component mixture may be combined in a first mixing device and this mixture may be subsequently combined with the gas in a second mixing device. When dispensed onto an application target, the gas entrained in the multiple-component mixture expands to form the foamed material. | 09-24-2009

Intervertebral spacers with side wall accessible interior cavity - Intervertebral spacers and methods of promoting fusion bone growth in the space between adjacent vertebrae are provided. The spacers include an elongated body having a first end, a second end and an outer surface. Side walls connect the first and second ends. The elongated body also defines an interior cavity. The side wall defines an opening to the interior cavity in a side of the elongated body. At least one of the first and second ends has a discontinuity, such as a concave surface, for nesting with an adjacent spacer. The methods of promoting fusion bone growth include utilizing the inventive spacers described herein. | 10-08-2009

Nucleus Implant and Method of Installing Same - A nucleus implant is disclosed. The nucleus implant can be configured to be installed within an intervertebral disc between an inferior vertebra and a superior vertebra. Further, the nucleus implant can include a solid core and an expandable chamber that can be disposed at least partially around the solid core. The expandable chamber can be expanded from a deflated position to an inflated position. | 09-03-2009
Nucleus implant and method of installing same - A nucleus implant is disclosed. The nucleus implant can be configured to be installed within an intervertebral disc between an inferior vertebra and a superior vertebra. The nucleus implant can include an expandable core and an expandable chamber that can be disposed at least partially around the expandable core. The expandable chamber can be expanded from a deflated position to an inflated position. Further, a hardness of the expandable core when inflated can greater than or equal to a hardness of the expandable chamber when inflated. | 09-03-2009

METHODS FOR ENHANCING EFFICIENCY OF BITUMEN EXTRACTION FROM OIL SANDS USING LIPIDS AND LIPID BY-PRODUCTS AS PROCESS ADDITIVES - In a method for enhancing the efficiency of separation of bitumen from oil sands ore, lipids, lipid by-products, and lipid derivatives are used as process additives for ore-water slurry-based bitumen extraction processes or in situ bitumen recovery processes. The lipids, lipid by-products, and lipid derivatives act as surfactants reducing surface and interfacial tensions, thus promoting breakdown the oil sands ore structure and resultant liberation of bitumen from the ore. Lipid treatment does not deleteriously affect release water chemistry in bitumen recovery processes, and it does not appreciably affect the fuel value of recovered bitumen. Lipids which may be effectively used as additives include biodiesel, tall oil fatty acids, monoglycerides, vegetable oil, and soap water, and combinations thereof. Lipids may also be used as process additives to enhance the efficiency of clean-up of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils, in the production of bitumen-water or oil-water emulsions, and to enhance the transportability of emulsions such as in pipelines. | 04-09-2009
